We just got back from a 5-day stay at the Luxury Bahia Principe Fantasia in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. 🏝 I wanted to post some general reviews based on our experience.
PROS: spacious room and bath, beautiful landscaping, pools galore, adults-only sections, kids club (9am-5pm daily) and supervised activity areas at select dining venues, nice beach (there was a lot of seaweed during this particular time but the staff was very proactive on raking it up and disposing of it), splash park was great for kids around 10 years old and younger, awesome light show with music on the castle every night at 10pm, shows/dancing and entertainment in the evenings, shopping at the village (on property), trams provided for easy access throughout the property with little wait time, room service is prompt, lots of activities (yoga, water aerobics, volleyball, dance lessons, etc.)
CONS: overall customer service - mediocre, language barrier (brush up on your Spanish prior to visiting this resort), cleanliness - not up to 5-star standards, special requests not fulfilled, pool towel huts were consistently out of towels, slippery floors throughout the property, mini bar had bottled beer with no bottle opener, no bottled water available without purchase (except mini bar).
NOTES: entering/exiting PUJ was easy (passengers need to take a bus from the gate to the plane, so be on time and at your gate at least 45 mins prior to departure), food was hit or miss, bars were good (longest wait time was maybe five mins), resort appearance was as expected, housekeeping was as expected, 25-30 mins from PUJ airport, adjust your meal schedule to later hours (breakfast begins at 8am), do not ever drink the tap water (water at restaurants is okay), I would not recommend using the kids club for more than a couple hours at a time (plus, no snacks/meals provided), minimal mosquitoes, bring plenty of sunscreen ($20-$30 if purchased at the resort), the beach is a five to 10-minute walk from Fantasia, wifi is just okay (but it's free), purchase your tourist cards ahead of time online ($10/person) or you will have to wait in a very long line upon arrival at the airport.
Would I recommend this resort? YES.
