Katie Reed, Literary Agent Literary agent with Andrea Hurst and Associates. Actively seeking YA fiction, adult fiction, and adult nonfiction. www.andreahurst.com Thank you,

Katie Reed

Dear Fellow Readers, Writers, and Book Lovers,

I am a returning agent with Andrea Hurst Literary Management actively seeking new stories. I am so excited to be part of the publishing world and I can't wait to find fresh new authors to represent! I can't resist a good book, and I am looking for one I just can't put down. I want to be pulled in right from the start and not peel my eyes away from th

e page until the end. I love lifelike characters I can identify with, who grab me by the heartstrings and take me on an emotional journey. I like a good roller coaster plot, complete with ups and downs, twists and turns, and when the ride is over I want to walk away with that good feeling you get when you have just experienced something breathtaking. And often, if it was really powerful, I just may do it all over again (I've read my favorite books multiple times through). I am actively seeking projects in the following areas:

Commercial Women’s Fiction with a strong hook and market appeal
Historical Fiction (Favorite authors include Ruta Sepyts, Kate Quinn, Kristin Hannah, Taylor Jenkins Reid)
Women’s Suspense/Thriller (especially with unreliable narrators or an ending with an unforeseen twist)
Fiction with a fantastical angle (a la The Midnight Library by Matt Haig)
Retellings, similar to Circe by Madeline Miller
Young Adult Contemporary or Fantasy
Middle Grade

**PLEASE NOTE: My turnaround time for responding to queries is currently 3-4 weeks, and she will only respond to queries if she is interested in requesting more. Please submit all queries to [email protected]. Please visit our website, www.andreahurst.com, for information on submission guidelines.

I’m so excited to be attending this for the second year running! Great opportunity for learning, writing, and networking.

Registration for Writing Away Refuge 2024 in Gulf Shores, Alabama is OPEN! And the house is already filling fast! We have 1 single room w/ a private bathroom and 4 shared bedrooms still available. This is going to be our BEST retreat yet, and I’m so excited! We’re hosting our retreat in a 3-story beach house named “Dream Big,” and it is BEAUTIFUL! Balconies, a heated pool, walking beach access, local cuisine—as in Gulf seafood—and all on the gorgeous Alabama Gulf Coast.

Four literary agents will be teaching workshops and listening to pitches, along with myself and Joyce Scarbrough hosting workshops as well. And our amazing kitchen staff will be preparing wonderful meals and making you feel right at home. There is no better place to write, network, brainstorm, or relax. Writing Away Refuge has it all!

Hope to see you at Writing Away Refuge 2024!

As if authors don't have it hard enough! A good FYI for your Monday.

I don’t think there’s much dispute that the many “imprints” under the Author Solutions umbrella are among the most negatively regarded of all the author services companies. From the predatory business practices that gave rise to two class action lawsuits, to the huge number of cus...

Sometimes, as an agent, a book comes along that you feel so strongly needs to be in the hands of readers everywhere, that you swear you will stop at nothing to get it out into the world, even if you have to open up a publishing house and do it yourself.

This book, pitched as "Squid Game goes to Vegas," is that book for me. The plotting is brilliant, the twists are mind blowing, and the tension and rising stakes will have readers on the edge of their seats for the entire ride.

Bonus: my husband, who NEVER reads (seriously, how did we end up married?!) couldn't put it down.
