Spring may have just begun but now is the time to plan your summer vacations! But can you tell us when summer vacations started being an annual tradition?
Summer vacation is a recent creation. While its exact origins are unclear, the tradition of taking a summer break between school years is attributed to the United States. By 1900, the 9-month school calendar became common. As cities grew and urban areas heated up, families escaped summer heat by spending time in cooler areas, leading to lower attendance and longer summer breaks.

With Easter upon us this week, let’s do some fun Easter trivia. Here in America, and other nations around the world, the Easter bunny is being eagerly awaited by children of all ages. But did you know, there are OTHER animals or entities that are hailed as the egg bringers for this holiday? Can you name any of them?
In Switzerland, the Easter Cuckoo (a bird) is believed to deliver Easter eggs to children. In parts of Germany, the Easter Fox or Easter Rooster, is also traditionally associated with bringing eggs, though the Easter Bunny has become more prevalent there. In Australia, the Easter Bilby (a marsupial) is the gift-bearer instead of the Easter Bunny. In Sweden, it’s an Easter witch named Påskkäring, who hails from an ancient cultural tradition. And in Russia, it’s the dogs who lay the Easter eggs, not the bunnies!

The deadline to obtain your Real ID is coming fast! The deadline of May 7th, 2025 is just around the corner, ARE YOU READY? There are only 27 days left before the Real ID goes into effect.

What does that mean for air travel going forward?Beginning May 7, 2025 every state and territory resident will need to present a REAL ID compliant license/ID, or another acceptable form of identification, for accessing federal facilities, entering nuclear power plants, and boarding commercial aircraft. The card, itself, must be REAL ID compliant unless the resident is using an alternative acceptable document such as a passport or passport card, or state-issued Enhanced Driver’s License. The Act does not require individuals to present identification where it is not currently required to access a federal facility (such as to enter the public areas of the Smithsonian) nor does it prohibit an agency from accepting other forms of identity documents (such as a U.S. passport or passport card). Real ID does not replace the need for a passport to travel internationally, including Mexico and Canada border crossings.

What happens if I show up at the airport beginning May 7, 2025 without my Real ID? What to know about the new deadline for Real ID.

Beginning May 7, 2025, all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the 5 territories will be requiring REAL ID to fly.

Travelers who do not present a REAL ID-compliant license or acceptable alternative beginning May 7, 2025 will not be permitted through the security checkpoint.

If you are traveling internationally you will still need your passport. If you are traveling domestically, you will only need one valid form of identification – either your REAL ID or another acceptable alternative such as a passport, not both.

What if I don’t have a REAL ID yet?
Visit your state’s driver’s licensing agency website to find out exactly what documentation is required to obtain a REAL ID. At a minimum, you must provide documentation showing: 1) Full Legal Name; 2) Date of Birth; 3) Social Security Number; 4) Two Proofs of Address of Principal Residence; and 5) Lawful Status.

States may impose additional requirements, so check with your state’s driver’s licensing agency website, before visiting them in person, for additional guidance and assistance.
