San Javier has launched AIRE 25, a one-off air show due to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Patrulla Águila.

This will be the third edition of AIRE. The first was held in San Javier in 2006, and remains the biggest airshow ever held in Spain. A second edition of AIRE was held in Torrejón, near Madrid, in 2014, marking the Spanish Air Force’s 75th anniversary.

The airshow will bring together a large number of major military aerobatic teams, with Patrulla Águila themselves and their Swiss counterparts, Patrouille Suisse, already announcing their intention to take part. Spain’s helicopter display team, Patrulla Aspa, are also due to participate.

The highlight of the event, and not to be missed, is the famous air display over the beach, taking place at around 11am, (subject to timings on the day) featuring the amazing Patrulla Águilas.

This is a new trip for us and we enjoyed our research to be able to bring this wonderful trip to you....

So we are off to the fabulous winery of Casa Sicilia in Novelda, just outside Alicante where we will have a guided tour of the vineyards and winery then have a tasting of their red, rose and white wines accompanied with breads and tapas nibbles. We will then have a 4 course lunch (menu available on request) in their gorgeous onsite restaurant which has a section of glass floor where you can see the wine cellar below. You will then have time to look around the shop and purchase some of the wines, jams and olive oils produced there.

But before all of this, on the way to the winery we will be stopping off at the amazing mini Gaudi inspired church in Novelda.

BANDO DE LA HUERTA - MURCIA
TUESDAY 22nd APRIL

Festival declared of International Tourist Interest.

On this day, Murcia city becomes a unique Garden in which tens of thousands of people of all ages take to the streets wearing regional clothing.

They, with the zaragüelles, vests and monteras (orchard hat), and they, with the beautiful refajos (skirts), aprons and shawls.

The day begins early, with a floral offering to the Virgin of Fuensanta, Patron Saint of the city, in front of the baroque façade of the Cathedral.

In the afternoon, the parade departs from the Infante Don Juan Manuel neighbourhood and runs through the centre of the city, treating everyone to the typical products of fruit and vegetables that fill the floats.

That's us on our way home from the Equimur international horse show...

There were 2 parts to this day.
First was general entrance , where you could watch the competitions of various equestrian skills, lots of stalls and a huge food area.
You could go to the holding pens and get close up to the horses, all shapes and sizes , including Shetland ponies and 2 camels 🐫 🐫 They are so well looked after, lots of Hay and water, and always monitored by the handlers.

Then was the equestrian horse show itself that portrayed the history of the dance of the horses and the associations involved, with great skill of both horses and riders from over Spain including Murcia, Lorca and Andilucia ... and the Finale was the astonishing Santi serri Aka the horse whisperer, displaying his calm persona in order to speak with the horses using only movment and eye contact, the bond they all have was incredible and emotional to watch. You have to experience it to believe it.

Thank you to our lovely coach load that joined us it was fun to spend the day with you all. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

This big festivity, declared as being of International Tourist Interest, has roots in ancient celebrations related to the summer solstice. Bonfires were lit to protect against evil spirits burning old and useless objects & welcome the summer.

The main characters of the festival are gigantic figures made of wood and cardboard that will burn the Night of San Juan on 24th June.

Alicante starts the summer officially when the Hogueras de San Juan festivities take place, and we will be there for a 1 night stay to see the burning of these amazing characters and say “hello” to the summer!!!
