Bill provided us transportation to another delightful and very popular spot for a hike, this one overlooking the stunning coastline of Southern California. It was FREE. We had a delightful hike down the cliffs to the spectacular beach and then back up again. Thanks again, Bill, for giving us a ride. We recommend this hike for all walkers or hikers who enjoy beautiful skies, rugged terrain, and blue oceans. Torrey Pines!!! Beautiful!

Bill has been focusing on what one can do in the state of California that is either very cheap or free. So, we have been doing some fun hiking. Featured here is our hike down to the falls at Cedar Creek, California. Thanks, Bill, for giving us a ride. Delightful day..

Bill is Back!!! He has been hanging out in California for the last two months since the weather back East can be rough on his complexion. He likes California; he has many friends and relatives living nearby. One could say this fits his comfort zone. But he will be returning to Indiana in late March. So for the time being, Bill and his "parents" are going to just sort of chill here in California for a bit. We’ll be checking out the various hiking trails and beach walks. We decided to focus on what this beautiful state offers that is FREE, or at least very cheap. California is often given a bit of a bum rap or bad reputation because of its high taxes and the cost of just about everything, but this state has so much to offer and such great diversity, and Bill’s latest explorations have focused on doing California free or cheap. We’ll start with this first post: “Bill, a Glass of Wine, and a Spectacularly Surreal Sunset.” Bill also likes alliteration. We sat in Bill watching this amazing sight.

Bill found his long lost cousin, but it appears that she has been hanging out with the surfers a bit too long.

Bill's trip out to his home for the winter -- California -- was pretty eventful. One of our favorite spots was Four Corners. But nothing beats cruising down the stunning California coast and stopping for ice cream in Encinitas, California.

Today Bill enjoyed a beautiful drive through Mesa Verde National Park. It was a long and winding road with terror at every turn. So he’s just chillin now in Cortez and then off to meet the relatives in Durango.

Day one of Heading to California Trip Two was quite eventful as Bill swayed across Interstate 70 with howling winds seemingly coming from every direction. We found refuge in the charming town of Saint Charles, Missouri. It was a martini night. We found great food and tapas at a little bistro on Historic Main.

Please enjoy an assortment of photos taken during Bill's last trip out west. There is so much beauty to be found and so much richness in our country's history.

Bill is getting ready for another voyage. We're heading west, dear friends, and we are hoping to see some amazing fall colors on our voyage. Bill has had some plastic surgery and has been fitted with some pretty impressive new gear, so it should be a good trip. It is my goal to post more of our past trips but without references to dates. It is time for updates because now we are serious about Bill and his many "eduventures" from the past, present, and future. Looking forward to those beautiful Rocky Mountains, red rocks, and -- of course -- that picture perfect California coastline.

After West Texas, Bill traveled to Tucson, Arizona where finally we were able to give camping a try. Someone forgot to remind us that the nighttime temperatures in these parts were quite low, or we were so desperate to give Bill this long sought after opportunity that we chose denial over the details of the weather forecast in the January desert. But we lived to talk about it since we slept with our coats and hats on, and never has a cup of hot morning coffee felt quite so good. The drive and hike through Saguaro National Park the following day warmed us all sufficiently.

Although we have been home for a bit, it is time to update Bill’s travels to the west, and there is no better place to describe than West Texas where cell phone coverage is limited and the possibilities for elegant fine dining are scarce. But the golden-coated fields that stand in contrast to the ruggedly magnificent cliffs and hills, which were the backdrop of one afternoon walk, will always leave us with a favorable impression of this part of the world. And the Mexican food was delicious! We were even able to dine with the legendary archetype of the Wild West.
