This area has been visited by people from all over the world for well over a century. Visitors first came to see the eighth wonder of the Natural World, The Pink and White Terraces. They were guided there by the local Maori tribe of Tuhourangi. On the 10th June 1886 that all changed due to the massive eruption of Mount Tarawera. Slowly but surely the land here has healed from that destruction howe

ver the Pink and White Terraces are no more. There are now many other amazing sites for visitors to experience and thankfully the guiding legacy of Tuhourangi is been re-born again, here at their Turangawaewae (standing ground) in the form of their descendant Karen Walmsley and her husband David Walmsley. We are Totally Tarawera.

Stunning time to walk to the Tarawera Falls. Lots of water with the winter rain making the falls pretty awesome.
Great water taxi ride, spawning trout in the river, two waterfalls on the walk from the lake.
It's a 3.5hr return walk to cover there and back.
To really have it all, do the Ultimate Day Out, which combines the walk,a visit to Hot Water Beach, and a soak in a natural bush hot pool.

Perfect time of the year to laze back in a natural hot pool.
Include a beautiful boat ride across Lake Tarawera and an option to stop off at Hot Water Beach.
We can add a short walk to add a little exercise.
