As a writer, literature is important to me. Narrative is important to me. Writing, sharing, reading stories is important. As a yoga teacher, story is important to me. Our stories are who we are. They live and breathe with us and occupy each of our cells. Words strung together into story have the power to change the world and each of our lives.
Journal, write, and record your stories. When life feels uncertain, unjust, lacks compassion, and connection, write. Write it how it is. Write it how you want it to be. Share what you've written.
In between writing, read. Devour words and books and stories by humans who have lived different experiences than you. Seek out voices that show you something beyond your everyday life. Seek out stories that subvert dominant narratives. Seek out narratives that might make you uncomfortable. The closest way to walk in another's shoes, to deepen empathy and compassion is to read their words, to fall into the depth of their narrative, and let it blanket it you.
This summer I'm donating proceeds from Journaling Through Uncertainty sales to . I've followed for years now and love what she's doing to weave literature, yoga, and art to empower young women!
What are you writing? What are you reading? Share with me!
