Behind the Scenes with Joel
Joel is one of One Horizon's family members. And many of our guests will remember Joel's singing abilities. Joel has also visited the United States as part of a Maasai singing group. In his local community he is often the favourite at weddings where his singing and dancing are renowned. Let us plan your next adventure to Kenya where you can meet Joel and have a great time with One Horizon.

The Spotlights on Adam
One day we got a call from Adam, who asked about whether he would be able to meet some Maasai. You see, Adam had always had an interest in Maasai culture and particularly the spears that the Maasai use. And so we introduced him to Daniel, whose own spear has been passed down through generations. He gave Adam a lesson in spear throwing. Adam said he had realised a dream he had, of doing exactly that. We are hoping Ada drops by again when he is next in this part of the world. He and his son were great guests

Behind the Scenes - Daniel
Daniel is the heir apparent in his clan and a leader in his community. When he is not hosting guests with One Horizon, you will find him in the hills with his cattle. Daniel knows just about everything to do with cows and how to look after them. As Daniel says "to the Maasai, the herd is their bank". You can meet Daniel when you come on a One Horizon experience in Kenya. He is great company with a good sense of humour.

Hurling clubs is not all about having a contest for fun. One of the right of passage, is to compete in various events. Throwing the clubs is one of them. If they pass this and other tests, they progress to being a Moran, a protector of their community

The Maasai love their cattle and hold them in the highest esteem, going to extraordinary lengths to protect them from predators. It is a deeply personal bond—they know each cow, sheep, and goat individually. With One Horizon, this is not something you simply observe from a distance. Because of the trusted relationships we have built with Maasai communities over many years, you are welcomed into their world in a way few others ever experience. It is this long-standing connection that allows our guests to come closer to daily Maasai life, traditions, and values than conventional tours can offer. And of course, no visit would be complete without being introduced to the herd

We’d like to introduce Jan, who comes from Australia, as her story with One Horizon sums up what happens to our guests. A few years ago, Jan had visited our grandmas and our Maasai village. She mentioned that she often recalled her time with us and how life changing it was. Well in February this year, Jan returned, and this time, with her daughter. She had wanted her daughter to experience what she had previously. And her reunion with our communities, just reinforced the friendship and the values that hold One Horizon and our guests together. A global diaspora of people that look after each other and our enduring relationships.

Spotlight on Jon and his wife
One Horizon meets many inspiring people, and Jon and his wife are among those we will never forget. After visiting our Nutrition and Feeding Centre, they chose to support more than 200 children through a life-giving feeding program. Their generosity provided breakfast and lunch to children facing very difficult circumstances, bringing not only nourishment, but comfort, dignity, and hope. Given quietly and with great compassion, their kindness touched many young lives and made a lasting difference. Thank you so much.

Together We Can is a cultural tour within the Magical Kenya Signature Experience Collection—a curated selection of unique, authentic, and exceptional once-in-a-lifetime Kenyan travel experiences accredited by the Kenya Tourist Board (KTB).

On this 4-day One Horizon cultural tour, guests have the rare opportunity to visit four grassroots Kenyan communities that travellers seldom experience in such a genuine and meaningful way. Participants are invited to take an active role in supporting some of the projects One Horizon champions and to meet the remarkable people driving positive change in their social and economic wellbeing.

Contribute your time at a local soup kitchen, meet the strong and inspiring women at a vocational and lifestyle training centre, and be moved by the stories of entrepreneurial Kenyan grandmothers whose resilience is transforming lives.

The journey concludes with time spent with the Maasai, offering a fascinating insight into a way of life that has remained largely unchanged for centuries. This is a cultural tour like no other—one that will leave you both humbled and inspired. Why not join us on an experience that will change you forever. Helen has been part of One Horizon's family for over 10 years. And when she is not hosting guests, she is a grandma to over 10 grandchildren. Now with a successful pig farm, life has become a lot easier for her. When she first came into One Horizon's orbit, she was feeling the stress of bringing up her grandchildren. But Helen embraced the challenge and has kept her family together. And she is a great pig farmer. Resilient and practical with a good sense of humour. We hope you all meet Helen on your trip to Kenya. She will keep you smiling and her warmth is infectious.
