The Spotlights on Claudia and Stefan
This week we want to shine the spotlight on Claudia and Stefan from Europe who have been such wonderful supporters of the work of One Horizon. Stefan and Claudia came to the school on a visit in 2019 and decided they could help. Apart from supplying clothing and shoes to our children, they funded a building program which resulted in 4 new classrooms. And again in 2024, their generosity extended to funding 3 additional classrooms and renovations to the old part of the school. The school has grown to 250 children (from 90) and we have been able to fund the most disadvantaged children by providing free education. Claudia and Stefan do that without fanfare. And their contribution to the education and health of young children has been amazing. From all of us at One Horizon, thank you both for you committed and dedication to the most needy and cannot wait to see you again.

After years of raising her 6 children, Rosemary returned to it again, when she assumed responsibility for raising her grandchildren. But Rosemary is one of One Horizon’s heroines in our family. Behind the scenes, Rosemary took on pig farming. And she has been a great success not only with a piggery to run, but with her family. Many of you will know Rosemary from your visits with us. Her success at pig farming has enabled her to educate and feed her children. She is a legend – tenacious, focused with a great sense of humour!

Behind the Scenes with Joel
Joel is one of One Horizon's family members. And many of our guests will remember Joel's singing abilities. Joel has also visited the United States as part of a Maasai singing group. In his local community he is often the favourite at weddings where his singing and dancing are renowned. The Spotlights on Adam
One day we got a call from Adam, who asked about whether he would be able to meet some Maasai. You see, Adam had always had an interest in Maasai culture and particularly the spears that the Maasai use. And so we introduced him to Daniel, whose own spear has been passed down through generations. He gave Adam a lesson in spear throwing. Adam said he had realised a dream he had, of doing exactly that. We are hoping Ada drops by again when he is next in this part of the world. He and his son were great guests

Behind the Scenes - Daniel
Daniel is the heir apparent in his clan and a leader in his community. When he is not hosting guests with One Horizon, you will find him in the hills with his cattle. Daniel knows just about everything to do with cows and how to look after them. As Daniel says "to the Maasai, the herd is their bank". You can meet Daniel when you come on a One Horizon experience in Kenya. He is great company with a good sense of humour.

Hurling clubs is not all about having a contest for fun. One of the right of passage, is to compete in various events. Throwing the clubs is one of them. If they pass this and other tests, they progress to being a Moran, a protector of their community
