Celebrating 181 Years of Dominican Republic’s Independence!

Yesterday, the Dominican Republic Embassy marked the 181st Independence Anniversary of the DR with a special ceremony at the Pegasus Suites, bringing together distinguished guests in a celebration of history, culture, and growing partnerships.

Ambassador Torres of the Dominican Republic reflected on the warmth and hospitality of the Guyanese people, sharing how fruitful his time in Guyana has been. He also highlighted a major win for tourism—flights to the DR from Guyana have tripled, strengthening travel, trade, and cultural exchange between our nations. He also stressed his country’s commitment towards lending its support toward the development of tourism in Guyana in whatever way possible

Representing His Excellency, Madam Gail Teixeira reaffirmed the Government of Guyana’s commitment to continued collaboration in key areas, including tourism, fostering even stronger ties between our two countries.

As we celebrate this milestone, we look forward to more opportunities for growth and unity between Guyana and the Dominican Republic! Felicidades to the people of the DR on this historic occasion!

Women in tourism: Ann Hamilton. Owner: Dagron Tours

It never occurred to me that I would end up in Tourism.

After obtaining a Bachelors of Science Degree (Communication Studies) and a Post Grad in International Relations, I took off for a few months of travel and my wandering spirit took me to the Caribbean and further afield.

In 2000, I opened a company which offered tour packages to Venezuela to visit Margarita island, Caracas, Mount Roraima; to Brazil to visit Manaus, Rio; Suriname, and the entire Caribbean (Barbados, Trinidad, Grenada, Martinique, St lucia, Antigua, St Kitts, St Vincent, Dominican Republic, etc
It was a challenging but exciting new hobby.

Gradually, our services expanded to include destinations throughout Guyana and we embarked on attracting overseas clients to Guyana and other destinations.
In addition, im very engaged in the management and development of Sloth Island Nature Resort, which was a new entrant in the hospitality sector in 2000s

With the help of my daughters,. Althea and Rose , and of course my partner Raphael and the many persons who graced our lives, Dagron Tours become a major player in the industry.

Women in tourism: Abigail Amanda Ally -Co-owner of Bimichi Eco Lodge.

The visitor experience represents a journey of dedication to our team. We are constantly searching for innovative ways to expand the business and give clients a better experience.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Tourism Studies from the University of Guyana. Upon completing my degree I was enthusiastic about the prospect of contributing to the travel and hospitality sector. However, life led me to embrace the role of stay-at-home mom for a number of years after graduation. During this period, my focus shifted towards creating a nurturing environment for my family and giving them the support and care that they needed. While being a stay-at-home mom was very rewarding, I never lost sight of my passion for the tourism sector. It was during this time that I explored opportunities to merge my professional aspirations with the responsibilities of family life. This pursuit led me to entrepreneurship, a path that led me to the flexibility and balance I needed.

My passion for promoting tourism stems from a deep belief in its power to create positive impacts on communities, economies and individuals.

Women in tourism: Louana Augustus, co-founder Patamona Tours

Under the slogan “For the Adventurous and Wild at Heart,” Patamona Tours was launched in May 2022 by Louana Augustus.

According to Louana, Patamona Tours is the first Indigenous-owned tour company established in the North Pakaraimas. The company collaborates with village councils to offer adventure seekers an immersive, nature-friendly travel experience.

Growing up in the small Indigenous community of Kopinang, Augustus felt privileged to be surrounded by breathtaking flora, diverse wildlife, and towering mountains.

As I grew older, I learned about eco-tourism, Recognizing the immense potential of her homeland, she envisioned marketing Kopinang and the wider Region Eight area in a sustainable way that directly benefits local Amerindian communities.

This company was founded not only to educate and promote our unique heritage but also to help preserve our culture & language.

While raising awareness of the Patamona language, the company simultaneously promotes community-based, eco-friendly tourism—showcasing the unparalleled beauty of Region Eight to both Guyanese and the world.

As a woman & mom of girls, as someone who has the privilege of meeting women from all corners of Guyana and walks of life: Happy international women’s day!

To every woman who’s ever been told she’s too much—too loud, too bold, too ambitious. To every woman who has ever been told she didn’t deserve seats at tables she worked hard to earn. Thank you for standing tall and refusing to dim your light. Keep shining. The world needs your fire.

To the women who refuse to shrink, who claim their space, speak their truth, and own their power—the world is stronger because of you.

To the women who stand up for, encourage, and empower other women—your grace, support, and strength create a ripple effect that changes the world.

To the women balancing it all everyday , who constantly put themselves second while they nurture & care for everyone else. We salute your enduring strength.

To the dreamers, the doers, and the trailblazers—lifting others as they rise and proving, every day, that anything is possible. You are seen. You are valued. You are unstoppable.

Today, we celebrate you. But let’s be honest—every day should be your day.

Our Story :Visit Guyana

The Visit Guyana page was started by Stacey Dos Santos Rahaman and is run by Her and husband Chris Rahaman

Shortly after leaving her job at the Guyana Tourism Authority, Stacey left Guyana to further her studies. While overseas she started looking for a suitable website to direct people to who constantly asked her about Info on Guyana and was shocked to see all the negativity online about Guyana. There was not one website or social media page which showcased a positive side of Guyana. The idea for visit Guyana was born.

“I remember being on my computer one night at 9 and Chris (My Husband and Co-founder) turned to me and said, “Why don’t you do something with that visit Guyana page”. I put up 2 posts and invited about 25 people and went to bed. When I woke up that number had grown to 200, by the next week we had 10,000 fans which have steadily grown to 139,000. I was amazed. Visitors wanted to learn more about Guyana. Guyanese overseas wanted things to remind them of home. The journey to create a 100% positive space to showcase all things Guyanese had begun.

Visit Guyana is privately owned and has no Government affiliation. However we do work closely with all tourism bodies and stakeholders in Guyana.
