VinePair Asked 9 Wine Pros: What’s the Most Memorable Bottle You’ve Ever Had?

I love this article from VinePair. I actually teared up at some of the sommeliers’ stories. It made me wonder what my most memorable bottle might be.

I'm not sure there is a specific bottle I can name, but I think the first time I had Muscadet and I created the poached shrimp with lemon aioli to pair with it might be the most memorable experience for me. This lovely bright wine with salinity and minerality was something I hadn't experienced before and the way the shrimp with lemon aioli complemented it by rounding it out and making it smoother was so exciting. So many of my peeps were with me and loved it, too. I think that is what reinforced my excitement about wine and learning how food can enhance the wine tasting experience.

VinePair has put out their list of the best orange wines for 2025 and some of them look VERY interesting.

I am especially interested in Tinto Amorio ‘Bheeyo’ Orange 2024 since it is made with Gewürtztraminer and a splash of Zinfandel. Going to have to try this one!!!

Osmote ‘Red Fox’ White Hybrid Blend 2023 from the Finger Lakes sounds really interesting, made up of Friulano (an Italian wine I love), Cayuga White and Trimanette (a hybrid of Gewürtztraminer).

Les Vins Pirouettes Eros de Vincent 2024 from Alsace sounds like an amazing blend! Time for another trip to Alsace?

I'm super excited about Matthiasson Wines Ribolla Gialla 2022, mostly because I fell in love with Ribolla Gialla in Venice and haven't been able to find it here. The fact that they grow it in Napa is eye-opening!!!

Super excited to search for all of these wines!!!

My college friends visited for a weekend so I took the opportunity to do some tastings with them. Because we were super lucky and had beautiful warm weather, we drank whites all weekend, so the next four episodes will feature white wine.

In this episode, my college roommate and chosen family Beth and I are tasting Banfi Principessa Gavia Gavi DOCG. I love the story of this wine... In the 6th century, Principessa Gavia fell deeply in love with a soldier. Her father, Clodimir, King of the Franks, forbade their marriage, so the lovers eloped to a remote village in northwestern Italy. Charmed by the local white wine, the newlyweds revealed their identity and were brought before the king. He realized their happiness and forgave the couple. The King blessed their union and named after his daughter both the village and its wine. It is said that their romance lives on in each glass of Principessa Gavia Gavi.

The wine itself is lovely. It's great with or without food and perfect for enjoying on a warm summer day. I hope you will give it a try and let me know what you think!

VinePair has put out a list of the top 10 Screw Top Wines and I was happy to see Apollo’s Praise Lahoma Vineyards Dry Riesling included. We had the opportunity to visit and tour Lahoma Vineyard and enjoyed their wines. So much so, that we (here comes a shock for you) joined the wine club. Looking forward to our first shipment from them!!! Congratulations, to our friends at Apollo’s Praise Lahoma Vineyard!

Tommy and I were able to get tickets for the Tuscan Seaport Wine Tasting in July and we had a lovely time. We tasted some interesting wines that we had never had before and made some new friends that we hope to see at future wine tasting events. It’s a very relaxed event with some delicious bites and several different wines to try. If you are looking for an opportunity to meet some people, enjoy time with your current peeps and experience some wines, the wine tastings at Tuscan Seaport are a great opportunity.

For this week’s episode, Tommy and I were inspired to open a bottle of Zenato Winery Alenara IGT because my brother-in-law Vincent Simonelli made us pasta bolognese for dinner. Alanera’s fruit hails from the Costalunga vineyard. The site’s landscape is remarkable as it overlooks the city of Verona, while partly hugging Lake Garda and being seemingly embraced by the impressive Monte Baldo and Lessinian mountain ranges. Alanera’s Three Swallows on its label serve as symbol to these landscape elements as well to its trio of native grapes: Corvina, Rondinella and Corvinone, creating this delicious red blend.

The Alanera was a perfect pairing to Vinny’s delicious bolognese. With its beautiful label and taste, this wine would be an excellent choice to bring to someone who’s invited you over for an Italian dinner!!!

I can't recommend trying wines you aren't familiar with more. When we were in Venice, I was able to taste so many varietals that I hadn't heard of before, Friulano being one of them. We stopped for ciccetti on the island of Burano and they had a so many wines that were new to me. I decided to try the Fruilano and loved it. I was lucky enough to see it on power buy at the liquor store and was blown away all over again!!!!
