“Conserved terrace houses in Singapore are more than just homes—they’re windows into the city’s past, each with a story to tell. Nestled in vibrant neighbourhoods like Tiong Bahru, Joo Chiat, and Kampong Glam, these heritage houses date back to the early 1900s, offering a glimpse of a bygone era. With their unique blend of Peranakan, Art Deco, and Straits Chinese architectural influences, these buildings reflect the rich cultural history that shaped Singapore into what it is today.

But these homes are not left to change with time. To protect their historical significance, the Singapore government enforces strict regulations to preserve their authenticity. From the preservation of facades to the careful selection of materials for renovations, every detail is regulated. Major alterations or demolitions are prohibited, ensuring the houses retain their original charm. This careful balance of conservation and modernization helps these terrace houses stand as living reminders of Singapore’s architectural evolution, providing a beautiful contrast to the sleek skyscrapers of the modern city.

Living in or visiting a conserved terrace house is like stepping back in time while staying connected to the present. These homes are not just for today—they’re for future generations to appreciate and enjoy, preserving Singapore’s architectural legacy one terrace house at a time.”

Happy Father's Day !
Bonne fête à tous les papas !

We were so lucky to take 3 months last year to travel as a family. The time the children spent with their father was invaluable. Now back to his busy professional life, he travels a lot but for work and without us! We miss him even more on this special day.
-

Dragon Boat Festival in Singapore: Traditions and Races! -- 🇫🇷👇
Every year on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, Singapore celebrates the Dragon Boat Festival!

The Dragon Boat Festival remembers Qu Yuan, a famous poet from China. Legend says he threw himself into a river after being banished. To scare away the fish from eating his body, people beat drums and threw rice dumplings into the water. This tradition became the dragon boat races and eating rice dumplings.

A special food called "zongzi" (粽子) is eaten during the Dragon Boat Festival. These are triangular rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves and filled with different ingredients like pork, beans, and nuts.

Dragon boat races are a big part of the festival. Teams paddle long, decorated boats that look like dragons.
This year, the races will be held on June 22nd and 23rd at Bedok Reservoir! https://sdba.org.sg/race/singapore-dragon-boat-festival/
