RIGHT ROYAL RESULT — A law banning the UK import and export of shark fins is set to achieve Royal Ascent from King Charles later this year, ending the country’s long, secret and dark participation in the global shark fin trade. The news follows eight years of campaigning by Bite-Back - since it first exposed a legal loophole that facilitated the personal import of shark fins into the country. In that time Bite-Back’s tireless campaigns have rallied the media, lobbied the European Union, prompted petitions, helped steer a private members bill through parliament and the house of Lords and now, ultimately, prompted a world leading ban that signals a victory for shark conservation, a blow to the shark fin trade and new hope to countries seeking a similar ban across the whole of Europe.

KwaZulu-Natal, along the Indian Ocean coastline of South Africa, is an unheralded wildlife paradise, with the Big Five, plenty of wild dogs, cheetahs, and even encounters with endangered pangolins. Tembe (a national park) in the north of the province is the home highest concentration of "Tuskers" left on the planet, Hluhluwe-Imfolozi has an abundance of white rhinos, and the best chance of spotting black rhinos on the continent outside of Namibia. Nambiti and Manyoni game reserves are excellent for wild cheetahs, and there is a cheetah, caracal, and serval conservation project that offers daily visits, accessible from a number of lodges. Long the coast, Isimangaliso Wetland Park has hundreds of kilometers of coastal forests, wild dunes, and some stunning lodges.
