Washington State celebrates Smokey Bear's birthday today. August 9 is one of the 12 days in 2025 when a Discover Pass is not required to access state-managed lands. What it means: On this day, visitors can park their vehicles without needing a Discover Pass on lands managed by the DNR, Washington State Parks, and the WDFW. This free day applies to all Washington State Parks, as well as other state-managed lands. The Discover Pass free day applies to day-use parking and does not affect overnight camping fees or other overnight stay requirements. Just one of the reasons to visit beautiful Bay State Park! For day use or overnight camping, there is access to the beach, a boat launch dock, picnic tables, trails, horseshoe pits, baseball field, and tennis courts. The Olympic Discovery Trail travels through the park, and the campground has 3 hiker/biker sites for individuals that enter the park on foot or bicycle. To honor Smokey Bear, remember that our area, Clallam County, WA, is currently under a full burn band, in effect now through October 1, 2025. This ban prohibits all outdoor burning, including recreational fires like campfires and briquette BBQs.
