If you’ve ever visited Catalonia, you may have spotted some giants dancing around town. Literally!!
They’re called Gegants, and they’re one of the most beloved traditions in Catalan festivals. 👫🎶
These giant figures, often over 3 metres tall, represent kings, queens, villagers, or local legends. Every town has its own, each with a name, a story, and a personality.
You’ll see them during festes majors (local festivals), parading through the streets to the rhythm of live traditional music. Inside each “Gegant” is a skilled dancer carrying the structure and bringing it to life, twirling, bowing, and celebrating with the crowd.
More than just a spectacle, gegants are a living symbol of community, joy, and Catalan identity.
📍Catch them in action at summer festivals all across the region and send us a picture if you do!
