Chef Anne de Ravel, with whom I worked for many years, passed away last year. Anne was born in the Languedoc-Roussillon region of France and it is here where I sent many guests to learn to cook with Anne and immerse themselves in all that is French.

Before moving back to France, Anne was a New Yorker for many years where she attended the Peter Kump Cooking School, now The Institute of Culinary Education. She was the creative editor of the Entertaining Magazine of the New York Times where she covered food, wine and lifestyle. She also worked on several shows related to French and American cooking for PBS and other cable networks as associate producer and script writer until she became a producer at the Food Network where she covered the US dining scene and its many facets. Anne was the first person they hired when they were ready to launch. She also wrote many articles and a couple of books involving prominent chefs in the US and abroad.

Anne was married for a time to NY Times food critic Bryan Miller. This article, which I have only read recently, was beautifully written by Mr. Miller. Anne was also the chef I chose for our "French Cooking at the Castle" week long program a few years back in the Dordogne region of France. She was not only a talented chef, but personable, funny, and such a pleasure to work with. I truly miss our work together.
