Visited Times Square a few times during the trip, each time it was different. This particular day was in the morning while I was on my way down to have a look at the Intrepid Museum (next review)
I also walked.through here at 8pm on a Saturday night- what an experience that was.
We were well versed on what to expect. Don't accept anything that anyone hands you, don't have your photo taken with anyone. Each of these situations they will.try and demand a payment from you. Scammers are everywhere. And again the smell....phwoah......the devils lettuce is everywhere.
The morning visit was much more sedate.

Near the World Trade Centre was a building called the Oculus.
Built after 9/11, it is a stunning building. Not only does it house an underground shopping mall, but it also doubles as a subway station.

Review #3 - One World Trade Centre - 9/11 area.
The plan for this day was just to head down to the World Trade Centre area and soak up the occasion and remembrance of the nearly 4000 people that lost their lives 23 years ago.
Lots of people, lots of Firefighters, and an unbelievable amount of Police.
Just wandered around, trying to understand the sheer scale of the site and it's surrounds. In 2001, when the twin towers fell, the debris field was 16 acres !!! My mind couldn't comprehend that.
Thinking that the new One World Observatory would be packed on 9/11 we had anticipated coming back another day. To our surprise there was basicly nobody there, so....up we went. Wow.
What a ride in the elevator. Floor 1 to floor 102 in 47 seconds !! And it was super smooth.
And then the views..... ceiling to floor glass, no rails, no barriers.
It's enough to make your toes curl inside your shoes. But super glad we did it. Reflected a couple of times about those trapped up there that day....doesn't bear thinking about.
If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend you put this on your to-do list.

What a way to start your day....open the curtains and be greeted with views of one of the most iconic buildings on the planet- The Empire State Building.
Headed out early to try and beat the crowds, only to find out that hardly anything opens before 10am. Could have got so much more done if the NY shops had their sh*te together.
Anyway, carried on with the plan which was......no plan. Just followed our noses. After a quick walk up to Times Square and the Hard Rock NY to kill time, we ended up at the Empire State at opening time. Wasn't many people there so up we went.
Awesome piece of history. Couple of elevator changes and we were at 86th floor. Viewing platform was outdoors, and the views were fantastic. Grabbed a few trinkets on the way out and on with the day.
Just down the road Julie spied a Xmas shop. Thankfully there wasn't a lot that interested us. Phew!!!
Quick coffee and off to Macy's. 9 storied department store. Julies spidey senses found a Pandora shop...*groan*....
Bite to eat from the in-store Maccas and on the move again.
Checked out Madison Square Gardens, (concert venue) and tootled back to the Hotel for a lie down lol.

Review #1 -
Finally after 6 months waiting we were on our way. Sneaky little wine at the airport in Nelson before departing for Auckland.
All travel and accommodation arrangements were handled by Kelly Bowater Travel. We could have done things ourselves but preferred the security of being able change things or have someone to ring in the event that something went wrong. It didn't.
Braced ourselves for the 16 1/2hrs flight to NY. In all honesty it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Numb bum at times, but no problems otherwise.
Arrived at JFK in NY to a brilliant red sunset, and set about getting through customs and then finding our way to the Hotel.
Many travel options available, but decided on RLuxe Transportation in a luxury Lincoln. Bit more expensive, but it was door to door and always felt safe. Our driver Christian was great. Settled into the hotel and decided to have a quick walk and grab a bite to eat NY styles, and then prepared for the start of adventures the next day.

NEWSFLASH UPDATE
In a couple of days time we will have been home from New York for 4 weeks.....4 weeks !!!!! So its time for an update of plans for this page, and maybe.....MAYBE.. plans for the future.
1- the page. Over the next few weeks I'm going to go through the photo collection and will be doing reviews on the places we went to.
While we were away I did daily reports, so this will be a bit more in depth, with our own reviews and thoughts, and all the photos that didn't make it to the last updates as well as those that did.
2- the future. What's the use of having a travel blog page, if you don't.....we'll....travel. No immediate plans yet, but its definitely on the cards that we could look at another trip some time in the future. Let us know in the comments where you think a cool place to visit would be.
In the meantime, keep an eye out for the reviews
