Watching my football team, Aston Villa, in a sports bar on Cancún as they lift a major European trophy for the first time since I was 6 years old (and don’t remember it!). What a day!

A fourth day back on the bike ready for next month’s ride across the US, Pacific to Atlantic with two friends. I’m trying to get back into shape, but also learn photo-editing all while sharing some gems of this region’s history as a tour guide. Enjoy my coast, enjoy my home!

A half- day spent touring in Cancún on the bike. As well as seeing several beaches, a couple of Mayan archaeological sites, the town square and other attractions, the real highlight was meeting the people of Cancún and hearing their stories. Javier and Yolanda truly filled me with joy.

A very Classic day out with a Washington state couple, VW enthusiasts. They got to see one of the seven Modern Wonders of the World, swim in a natural water hole unique to this Mexican peninsula, and stroll around a Spanish colonial town, Valladolid.

A second day on the bike, visiting some nearby towns, expiring their food and their history - and trying to learn more about video editing each day. This could be my sample for a travel programme - although my wife is unimpressed because I’m a lot more fun in real life than it seems in this video. Anyway, watch the video and get to know the Quintana Roo towns of Leona Vicario, Central Vallarta and Puerto Morelos with a little Cancún thrown in.

Today is the second anniversary of Señor Travel Bug’s first tour (although he’s shown many friends around before that!). And it’s a milestone for this award-winning private tour operator, the best in Quintana Roo. Guests / new friends have come from 29 countries, and 21 US states have visited (see 2 maps on the reel to see if you can ‘help’!), and Señor Travel Bug has already given 92 tours at the Modern wonder of the World that is Chichén Itzá. Come try for yourself, in English, Spanish, French or German.

Today is the second anniversary of the first tour for Señor Travel Bug. As I am wont on big days, I like to celebrate with numbers, data and graphs! How very ex-banker!

I have now done 146 tours, from which I have 105 reviews, all of which, proudly, are 5*. I’ve had 468 people enjoy at least one tour with Señor Travel Bug, from 29 countries and from 21 states of the USA (the most frequent customer base, barely ahead of the UK and with Canada in third). I’ve been fortunate enough to ‘work’ at Chichen Itza, one of the Seven Modern Wonders of the World, 92 times, and eat in my favourite local restaurant, with absolutely the best tortillas, 61 times! Oh and ice won an award inside my second year as the state’s best private tour operator.

Although I have a very cool VW Beetle (51 times), the majority choose a modern air-conditioned car (79), and I’ve needed to rent a larger car or van 16 times. We recently bought a car with seven seats 🙂 Finally, I pick up in Cancún (62), Puerto Morelos (16), Playa del Carmen (29), Costa Mujeres (8) and occasionally further away if they’re a referral.

Please tell all your friends, colleagues, people at the school drop-off, hey even those people you don’t like that much!! I’ve now got very few bookings looking ahead so I’ll be grateful and with 5* reviews I’m confident they’ll have an amazing day or days.

My first bike ride over the new bridge in Cancún captured in under 2 minutes, at 11km the second longest in all of Latin America. It was opened last week by Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum and should alleviate the until now very problematic traffic in Cancun’s hotel zone and make easier any necessary evacuation for any hurricanes. And I’m trying to learn more video-editing at the moment so lots of practice with new tools.

A second video from Mexico City this weekend showcasing the commercial opportunities companies see from Mexico hosting the World Cup. There are of course the official sponsors, but also Mexico football team clothes for your dog, sexy underwear for your man, a department store, sauces, paint and hot chocolate all alluding to football without being official. Check out how Mexico City looks in this video and the last posted yesterday.

Mexico is preparing to be the first country to host the World Cup for a third time, and with the bold claim that ‘the ball is coming home’, reference to Pele’s appearance on the 1970 cup final, and Maradona’s hand of God in 1986 but also to the 3,000 year history of the Mesoamerican ‘ball game’. Mexico City is filled with advertising and other signs of the big event just 33 days away now when the World Cup will begin at the Aztec Stadium.
