❓️Why hire a wildlife guide or Mountain Leader?
🙌 I got the idea for this post from a post by - who recently posted something very similar, and it got me thinking... What we do is something to shout about! (Definitely give them a follow for loads of useful tips and amazing mountains in your feed. If you are looking for a guide on Ben Nevis or anywhere in the Fort William area, these folks are highly recommended. )
So what can a guided walk deliver that walking on your own doesn't?
You may feel you have the skills to head into the hills on your own or go out spotting wildife without anyone's help (and if you don't, I can definitely help with that). But can someone a bit more experienced benefit from a guided experience? Definitely!
🙋♀️ I'm a holder of 's Summer, Winter and International Mountain Leader awards, it's my job to provide adventurous but safe experiences, to asses risk, and to make sound decisions when things get tough. I'm a member of the and (British Association of International Mountain Leaders), and undertake regular CPD.
⛰️ I can recommend the best routes, check all the weather forecasts, recommend equipment, and plan your day.
🏔 I carry extra emergency gear, route find, and spot you through rough terrain. Having me on the hill with you means you can relax and enjoy the experience- and if you prefer to be more involved, it can become a coaching experience to hone your existing hill skills, including winter skills.
🦦 I'm also an experienced wildife guide who knows all the best spots to find wildife, has got my "eye in" for species you may not be used to seeing, and has a deep understanding of the ecology of the landscape, to really bring it to life for you.
🦕 I've lived on Arran for 20 years, I know every nook and cranny of the mountains, and can share the history, geology, and ecology of the landscape in ways that even a guidebook will struggle. There are secret gems and interesting corners that I love to share. Things like fossil footprints, cave carvings, ancient settlements, and air crash sites that are not easily found and often not on maps.
