What a historical homage ✨

They call me Fiel, for Faithful. My brother, Firma, and I have stood watch on the west side of the Bridge of Lions for nearly a century (Pax and Peli, the lions of the east, are much newer). Carved from white marble in Florence and brought across the sea, we guard this place with silent pride.

People pass by walking, driving, laughing, snapping photos. Some treat me like I’m alive. Maybe I am.

I’ve watched countless sunrises shimmer on the water and witness each day as the city wakes with the sound of bells.

Firma and I don’t speak, but we are connected. He watched from one side of the street; I, the other. Together, we are more than statues. We are guardians, symbols of beauty, strength, grace and time.

I am Fiel, the Lion of St. Augustine. And this is my bridge.
