Homestead Modern 1, the first of a new line of unique homes, will be completed and open for rentals this fall in Pioneertown, the quirky Mojave Desert community. Pioneertown was built by the Hollywood studios after World War II and today is known as much for its spectacular high desert scenery and noted musical roadhouse Pappy & Harriet’s as it is for its movie and TV heritage. Homestead Modern 1

will feature a one-bedroom one-bath home and a separate one-bedroom one-bath casita (both will also offer private outdoor showers as well as indoor showers). Both structures are steel framed and will have lots of glass. The home will feature a full kitchen with all new stainless steel appliances. Wi-fi will be available in both the house and casita and satellite TV service will be available in the house. Guest Access

I purchased this acre-and-a-quarter property in Pioneertown in early 2014 with the goal of building a prototype for Homestead Modern 1 is the result of that. Pioneertown appealed to me for a number of reasons. As a former movie and TV Western set it has a fun old Hollywood vibe. It also sits amidst a breathtaking tableau of craggy desert mountains and epic flattop buttes – with endless opportunities for high desert exploration. And as a bonus it features Pappy & Harriet’s, the wildly popular music and food venue.
