✨ Discover the History Behind Monte Palace Abandoned Hotel, São Miguel 🌿

Tucked away in the hills of São Miguel, the abandoned Monte Palace Hotel is a fascinating piece of history frozen in time. Built in the 1980s as a luxury hotel, it was designed to offer panoramic views of the island and the Atlantic Ocean. However, due to financial issues and shift in ownership, the hotel was never completed and was abandoned shortly after its construction.

Over time, the hotel has become a captivating ruin, its once grand architecture now overtaken by nature. 🌱 The building's faded elegance and crumbling walls evoke a sense of nostalgia and mystery, making it a popular spot for explorers and photographers seeking to capture the haunting beauty of its decay.

The hotel's location, surrounded by lush forests and breathtaking views, adds to its allure, blending the past with the present. It’s a perfect destination for those interested in both history and the eerie charm of abandoned places.

Would you dare to explore this piece of São Miguel’s forgotten history? 🏚️📸

Built in 1707, and rebuilt in 1769 after an earthquake, Igreja de Santo António is the third most visited monument in Algarve! With impressive baroque style interiors, it is also considered to be one of the most impressive displays of gilded woodwork in Portugal.

If you are wondering what gilded woodwork is..🤔.. it is a form of artistic expression through wood carvings layered in sheets of gold. This type of work can usually be found in church and cathedral interiors.

The sacristy portion of the church became a museum in 1932, displaying sacred art from the 17th & 18th century, archeological pieces, and tile panels. This museum tells the story of the people of Lagos throughout history and is a highly complimentary experience when visiting the church.
