WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH HENRIETTA LACKS 1920-1951
Her cells were used by surgeons at Johns Hopkins harvested cells from her tumor without her permission or the knowledge of her family. Used for scientific experiments, including study the effects of zero gravity in space, vaccine development and, a even be sold by labs for financial gain. Today the world has Lacks (and her cells) at least in part to thank for the polio and Covid-19 vaccines, research on Parkinson’s, AIDS, HPV, cancer and leukemia.

WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH BRIDGETTE "BIDDIE" MASON
Biddy Mason, born into slavery in 1818, is a towering figure in American. Born enslaved in Georgia, Biddie Mason walked more than 2,000 miles through rugged terrain to California where she eventually won her freedom in a landmark court case and became a celebrated philanthropist. Her journey from enslavement to becoming a prominent landowner and community builder in Los Angeles is a testament to the indomitable spirit of individuals who strived for their own freedom and worked to uplift their communities.
