So you know my fabulous and ever-so-slightly bonkers friend Beth writes amazing books? Well, did you know she's also a Lonely Planet writer?

Best Day Walks Great Britain and Best Day Walks Emgland have just been republished, and I am thrilled to have contributed to them both. Just a paragraph about how lovely Cornwall is, but look, my name is in print.

Beth's bits are a lot more interesting of course, and with the summer holidays coming up, these are essential reads for some ideas for wonderful days out.

Well done Beth, and thanks for asking me to contribute ###

Day Four: Brecon Beacons

For our final morning, we popped up to the summit of The Skirrid, just behind our cottages.

It was a hot and steep climb, but the views were spectacular. And Sarah and Tracy were released from the kitchen and came with us!

A lovely way to end a fabulous holiday.

Thanks lovelies x

Day Three: Brecon Beacons

A wonderfully varied day with lots of different terrain.

I was back in charge of guiding, so we cheated hugely and got the minibus to drop us off at the carpark near the summit of Blorenge.

With fabulous views in all directions, and the hint of industrial archaeology,, we took the grassy track down to the Devil's Punchbowl, a glacial tarn. The incumbent family of geese (mum, dad and fluffy goslings) weren't that pleased to see us. Much hissing as we approached to find a spot for first lunch.

Then we went round the mountain (ok with a little bit of up) on what felt like a tramway, before dropping down through a lovely coniferous wood to second lunch.

Down through a beautiful beech wood to the canal, where it was finally flat! Then along the River Usk, and through Castle Meadows. Up into town, where I'd arranged a gallery visit to a local artist, and then the group went hunting for a cuppa or an ice-cream.

Back to the cottages, and one last dip in the hot tub, before another fabulous meal from Sarah and Tracy. Everyone was too tired to play games!

A lovely day.

Day Two: Brecon Beacons

The day started with rain, but the sun soon came out, to make it another stunning day.

One group headed up Deri and Sugar Loaf with local guide Sally, on a very quiet route. They loved the day with gorgeous views from the top, and a favourite secret path through the lovely woods at St Mary's Vale. Excitement provided by a swarm of bees!

My group had a much gentler day - starting at the very lovely Llantillio Crosseny church (with fab car park and toilet). We climbed upto White Castle which was just fabulous, following the amazing / crazy runners doing 200 miles over 5 days! Then a lovely quiet walk back to the cars, through some gorgeous meadows.

Thank you lovely Sally, for a fabulous walk today!

Day One: Brecon Beacons

A fabulous day in the sunshine! We started at the very lovely Llanthony Priory, and steadily ascended Hatterall Hill, to follow Offa's Path along the ridge, with amazing views.

At one point we stood with one foot in England, and one in Wales!

9 glorious miles back to our lovely accommodation, with the natural swimming pool, hot tub, sauna and massages!

Thank you to lovely Claire for being our guide today.

This looks utterly amazing!
