Having rebuilt multiple times myself, seeing the aftermath of a community that once thrived puts everything into perspective.

It’s even more heartbreaking to learn that most of the rebuilding process won’t be covered by insurance.

Here are 5 reasons why group travel plans fail.

1️⃣ Disorganization: Propose an itinerary, rather than just a destination.

2️⃣ Lack of Communication: Be transparent about budget and expectations to avoid delays and confusion.

3️⃣ Too Many Opinions: The organizer sets the vision; guests can confirm if they’re in or out.

4️⃣ Different travel styles: Even if you share common interests, travel preferences may vary. Ask your friends up front what their travel style is.

5️⃣ Money: Don’t rely on verbal commitments, collect financial commitments before you make reservations.

Use TravelTrunk for your next trip to avoid these problems, and get the trip out of the group chat. Sign up on our website!

If you're thinking about organizing a group trip, you'll need to have the following skills..

🗂 Attention to detail will help you catch any mistakes early, ensuring a smooth travel experience for your group.

🤝 Management skills provide the organization, leadership, and problem-solving ability needed to keep drama far away from the group.

🧘‍♀️ Last but not least, patience. Patience allows you to stay calm under pressure and provide your group with stability when things don‘t go as planned.

Here are the five reasons we think you should travel with your friends and family more.

🕐 Prioritize shared experiences over socializing. Often in our daily lives, we get caught up in meeting new people, making friends, or networking. Traveling should be where we get away from all of that and not let it over shadow the joy of exploring a new destination.

🫴 Trusting your friends. If you're with people you trust, you'll feel like they have your back. You might not know exactly what to do but your trust in your friends' abilities, judgement, and willingness to support you will make you feel safe.

👯‍♀️ Shared memories and inside jokes. On a group trip, you spend an extended amount of focused time together. The things you do become special memeories or inside jokes that help cement your bond.

📈 Enhancing the experience. Create a meaningful itinerary based on your groups interest, rather than book a generic pre-made plan that might not reflect your group's tastes.

☺️ Being comfortable. When you're not holding back, you're more likely to enjoy the trip. Giving yourself permission to fully embrace the experience—emotionally, socially, and personally. Having friends on the trip who know and love the real you helps with that.
