One of my favourite parts of travelling is coming home with a little something to remind me of the places I’ve been.

And for me… it’s FRIDGE MAGNETS! 🧲🌎 (and a random rice spoon I picked up in Sri Lanka which is still hanging around)

At home or abroad I HAVE to buy a fridge magnet.. although sadly, quite a lot have been lost over the years with house moves and others have met an unfortunate end in the suitcase or been broken by the kids! 💔😅

Nothing beats a slow Sunday.. 😍 unfortunately that only applies to my slow cooked beef, as I've had another manic day!

I do feel a huge sense of accomplishment though when I've got the slow cooker AND the washing machine on by 7.30am.

It's the small things 😅

Lots of life and work admin done today, flight tracking for my clients, document checks, triple checking hotel reservations, back to school lists...
My to-do list still isn't quite complete. I have a couple of quotes to do and a well overdue walk with the pooches!

18 YEARS IN TRAVEL! ✈️🥂

Today I’m celebrating 18 years in the travel industry… and honestly, HOW?! 😳😂

A little over 18 years ago, I was working at Morrisons Petrol Station, where I’d been for 4 years. I didn’t necessarily have a burning desire to work in travel… I just knew I didn’t want to stay where I was. So when the opportunity came along, I decided to take a leap. ✨

I still remember my interview at Thomas Cook Head Office, with my lovely fellow TC Rebecca Brisley

Little did I know that one interview would kick-start an 18-year adventure!

And what an adventure it’s been… 💙

There have been incredible highs, stressful lows, early mornings, late nights, cancelled flights, stranded passengers, changing travel rules, endless emails, impossible requests 😂… but also so many amazing people, unforgettable experiences and the absolute privilege of helping people create memories all over the world. 🌎✈️

From Thomas Cook, through all the changes the travel industry has seen, to where I am today as an independent Travel Counsellor… I certainly never imagined that slightly random career leap would turn into 18 YEARS!

It’s funny where one little decision can take you. ❤️

So today I’m feeling incredibly grateful and very, VERY old! 😂

Every now and then, I dabble with online food shopping… and today I was reminded exactly why I don't do it often 😂

I eagerly unpacked my delivery, already drooling over tomorrow’s planned dinner… slow cooked beef casserole, mash, yorkshire puddings..

Except… I ordered 650g of beef and received HALF.
Same with the pork fillet I’d ordered for later in the week for pulled pork, apple sauce & stuffing baguettes. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Don't even get me started on the substitutions 😅

So now my carefully thought out meal plan is basically hanging by a thread, along with my will to live 🙃

And honestly, it got me thinking about booking holidays online…

You can click a few buttons, find what looks right, pay your money and hope for the best. But sometimes what arrives isn’t quite what you thought you were getting.

The hotel might not be quite as expected.
The room might be smaller than the photos suggested.
The transfer might be a bit more complicated than you realised.
Or the “perfect family holiday” might turn out to be anything but. 😬

That’s where speaking to a real person can make such a difference.

Someone who listens to what you actually want, knows the destinations, understands the little details and can help make sure you’re getting the right holiday, not just a holiday.

Today's Assistant 😂

Working from home with a toddler means I technically have an assistant… although I’m not sure HR would approve his working conditions 😅

He’s excellent at:

📋 Sitting on important paperwork
💻 Pressing random buttons
📞 Interrupting every “quick” client call
☕ Spilling my coffee
❤️ Providing cuddles on demand
🚶‍♀️ Wandering off to cause various levels of destruction through the house

Productivity levels? Questionable.

Employee benefits? Outstanding 👏😂

The people, without a doubt.

I love getting to know my clients, hearing what they're looking for and then finding those little details that turn a holiday into their perfect holiday.

And getting those messages when they're away telling me how much they're loving it? 🥹 That's the best bit.

🌴 What's your favourite holiday memory?

Thailand is definitely up there. The people, the food and that absolutely jaw-dropping scenery. 🇹🇭

And Barbados is another standout - again, the people and food, but most definitely the MUSIC! 🇧🇧🎶

For me, you can find a beautiful beach in almost any corner of the world… it's the culture that makes a destination truly special. ❤️
