For this series I chose to photograph Queen using my medium format film camera, on which I only shoot black and white film.

True story, I took this headshot in about 1 minute flat. I needed a headshot for a business pitch I was doing, and I realized I didn't have a recent headshot wearing a "professional" jacket. I had forgotten my tripod somewhere too far to get to on time, and the deadline for sending the image was literally the next 10 minutes. I found a spot suitably distant to allow me to use my trusty lens zoomed all the way in. Alas! The spot's camera height was not enough, so I grabbed a wide enough cylindrical container (of oatmeal, no less!) and gingerly entrusted my precious camera to its geometry...

Thanks to the wonders of modern tech, I can control my camera using my phone. It was an overcast but bright day, so I threw open the blinds and got in position. Grabbed a couple of shots, which got automatically transferred to my phone. I cropped the one I wanted, and sent it off for my pitch in the nick of time!

It feels like around every corner in Habana, you come across a new and wonderful surprise. It is a place of contrasts, but one thing that is a constant is the warmth of the people and their pride in their storied history and legacy of resistance. As an errant native, that resonates deeply with me. Standing up for oneself, remaining resilient in the face of adversity while retaining one's humanity. Powerful mix.

Havana really is a time warp...

It felt like I was walking around in 1955. There's a timeless energy, an incalculable defiance, a carefree spirit that just emanates from everything corner, every nook. I encountered nothing but wonderfully friendly people. Hardened by life, but not enough to lose their innate warmth. Their resilience has not dimmed their zest for life.

If ever you get a chance to visit Cuba, grab it immediately. There's nowhere quite like it.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well. to me, beautiful dance is like a thousand pictures, woven together in a tapestry of perpetual motion.

Photographing dance is something I always wanted to do, but did not realize quite how powerful it would be.

Capturing a moment within that perpetuity of dynamism was my goal, so I set out to light it and capture it to convey the stillness within the motion.
