Terraza Catedral does exactly what the name says, and the bell tower is close enough that it stops being scenery and starts being architecture.

You notice the scaffolding from up there. You notice the unfinished second tower.

It is the best place in the city to have the Cathedral explained to you by whoever you came with.

Which building do you never get tired of looking at?

Chasing the 2026 Golden Hour. 🌅

There is a 20-minute window in Málaga where the sky turns a deep violet over the mountains while the port lights begin to flicker below. We’ve scouted the absolute best vantage points to capture this contrast without the usual tourist crowds.

I've dropped the direct website link in the first comment for easy access! 👇

🍹 September is the best month for rooftops in Málaga and almost nobody books it.

I say this every year and every year somebody tells me I have got it wrong, so here is the case laid out.

The heat comes down about ten degrees. That is the difference between a terrace being somewhere you endure for forty minutes and somewhere you sit for three hours. The sea is at its warmest of the entire year, warmer than July, because it takes the whole summer to heat up and then holds it well into autumn.

The queues go. Everything that spent eight straight weeks turning people away has tables again, and the staff have recovered enough to be pleased to see you rather than merely surviving you.

The light gets better. The sun sits lower, so it comes in sideways and hits the buildings rather than flattening them, and every photograph anybody takes from a terrace between six and eight in September is better than the same photograph in July.

And the flights come down, which nobody mentions but everybody notices.

August has the atmosphere. Feria, the whole city awake at midnight, an energy that September genuinely does not have.

September has the seats.

🍂 August finishes on Monday, and September is the month the rooftops are actually good.

I say that every year and every year somebody tells me I am wrong, so here is the case.

The heat drops about ten degrees, which is the difference between sitting outside at three in the afternoon and hiding indoors until seven. The sea is at its warmest of the entire year, warmer than July, because it takes the whole summer to heat up and then holds it. The queues disappear. Everything that was full for eight straight weeks has tables again, and the staff have recovered enough to be pleased to see you.

The flights are cheaper. The light in the evening goes gold rather than white. And the terraces that spent August turning people away start doing the thing they are actually for, which is being somewhere you can sit for three hours.

The case for August is the atmosphere. Feria, everybody out, the whole city awake at midnight, and a kind of energy that September genuinely does not have.

The case for September is that you can get a seat, and it is still 28 degrees at nine in the evening.

I know which one I would book. I also know which one sells out first, and it is not the one I would book.

🌊 I did not expect Torremolinos to have the best sea views of the three towns. It does.

Sky and Sea has a proper 360 and the sea takes most of it, because Torremolinos sits up on a cliff and Málaga does not.

People are snobbish about Torremolinos. Some of that is earned. Most of it is thirty years out of date, and the view does not care either way. 🌅

⛪ One of the best Cathedral views in Málaga belongs to a hostel.

The terrace at Chinitas Urban Hostel is open to anybody, not only people staying there, and the bell tower sits directly in front of you.

It costs a fraction of the hotel terraces thirty metres away with the same view. The furniture is worse. The view is not.

Where have you found a view far better than the price?

Marbella does rooftops better than Málaga, and I say that living in Málaga.

Not more of them. Better ones. The old town terraces behind Plaza de los Naranjos are smaller, quieter, and put the sea and the mountains in the same frame, which Málaga simply cannot do.

Málaga wins on views of the city itself. Marbella wins on the view away from it.

Right, tell me I am wrong. 👇

Lo**ta Skyview has an infinity pool and a genuine 360.

Genuine is the word doing the work. Most places claiming it have a plant room eating a third of the view. This one turns the whole way round.

🏊 Rooftop pool, or rooftop bar?

The case for the pool: it is 33 degrees, you are in the water, and the city is somewhere below your feet.

The case for the bar: you can go at nine in the evening, you do not need a towel, and nobody watches you get out.

I know which one I book in August and which one I book in October.

Which are you booking?
