360° AROUND SEA OF GALILEE: CHURCH OF THE BEATITUDES - VIRTUAL TOUR

Church Of The Beatitudes (Roman Catholic), Was Built At The Traditional Location Where Jesus Delivered The Sermon On The Mount, The Eight Philosophical Teachings (Eight Blessings), Mentioned In Matthew 5:3-12.

According To The Tradition, Christian Pilgrims Are Known To Have Commemorated This Place Since At Least The 4Th Century Ce - Roman-Byzantine Period.
Egeria The Pilgrim, Traveling From The West, In The “Itinerary Of The Holy Land”, Mentioned The Place In 381 CE: "Near There On A Mountain Is The Cave To Which The Savior Climbed And Spoke The Beatitudes”. Archaeological Excavations, Supported The Historical Sources, An Exposed In Immediate Vicinity Of The Church Remains Of A Byzantine Period Monastery, Dated To 4Th Century CE.

The Modern Church Was Design By The Architect Antonio Barluzi & Built Between 1936 - 1938 Under Commission Of The Italian Mission Society With Funding From Benito Mussolini. The Architectural Plan Is Octagonal In Neo-Byzantine In Style, The Eight Sides Representing The Eight Beatitudes As The Architect Intended To Reflect Of The Biblical Text In Architecture. The Church Is Built From Local Black Basalt, White Limestone, Imported Italian Marble & Onyx.

View from El Nabi Musa (Tomb of Moses) towards the Judean Desert.
Built during Ayubid/Mameluke period (Circa 12-14 Century C.E), commemorating, by the Islamic tradition, the Tomb of Prophet Moses.

Authentic or Forgery?
Plaque with Aramaic Inscription mentioning Uzziah King of Judah, who ruled in 8th Century BCE, (1st temple).
Aramaic Text: "לכה התית / טמי עוזיה / מלך יהודה / ולא למפתה".
Translation: "Here lay the bones of Uziah king of Judah, & dont open"
It was discovered, in 1931 by Prof. Sukenik, at the basement of the Russian church in Jerusalem, outside archaeological context. 
Paleographic research dated the script to the Herodian period (Circa 1 century BCE/CE).

Mentioned in Biblical, Mesopotamian & Egyptian sources as Gazru, it was an important city during Bronze & Iron Ages.

Book of 1 Kings 9:15-16 states: "King Solomon build the wall of Gezer, Pharaoh king of Egypt had gone up and captured Gezer and burned it with fire, and had killed the Canaanites who lived in the city, and had given it as dowry to his daughter, Solomon's wife."
