Cabo Verde stole my heart in 2001, when I came here for a month-long journey. From the warmth of Sal and the authentic charm of Espargos, to the Afro-Ibiza vibe of São Vicente and the unforgettable hospitality of locals on Santo Antão — each island touched me deeply.

But Santiago… Santiago claimed me. When I first set foot in its green interior, I felt something shift. This is home, I thought. And it still is. Here, I feel deeply connected — to the people, the mountains, the rhythm of daily life.

Seven years ago, I planted my roots and created Terra Terra Tours: not just to organize trips, but to help others feel what I felt — and still feel — in this place I call home.

04 July: Screening of “Canhão de Boca”

In the context of the liberation struggle of Guinea-Bissau and Cabo Verde, Amílcar Cabral called Rádio Libertação the “Canhão de Boca” – the mouth-cannon – more powerful than any weapon.

Join us for the screening of “Canhão de Boca”, a documentary that blends past and present through the stories of two powerful voices:

🔊 Amélia Araújo – a voice of Rádio Libertação in the 60s and 70s
🗣️ Rosário da Luz – an economist and critical voice of Cabo Verde today

Through their stories, this film explores how radio built freedom — tuning into the resistance of the past and the questions of the present.

Happy Children’s day 💞

The most beautiful thing I could give today on this “dia de crianças” is my full attention to my own. And my intention for today was that I choose to remain patient. Well believe me, it really didn’t all go smoothly 🤪.
But it was a beautiful day to reflect on all the children who mean a lot to me (and also to put the parents in the spotlight 😘, including my own parents and myself of course)

I’m here, in Cabo Verde, with the most beautiful gift life has given me – our daughter. Amid all the precious and defining moments of raising this special little being, I’m still doing my best to keep things moving.
My company, Terra Terra, feels like a child too – it’s my life’s mission.
Bit by bit, I’m coming closer to myself, and soon I’ll surprise you with the “new” experiences I’ve been quietly creating – born from this journey of motherhood and the life I’m living here and now.

These photos were taken last weekend during a soulful visit to Boa Entrada / Poilão, where I spent time with local entrepreneurs and families.
If you ever feel called to Cabo Verde and wish to meet the land, its people, and their stories in an intimate way, this is for you.
With deep gratitude to Bara for capturing not just images, but the essence of the moments we shared — moments that nourish the soul and gently guide us on our paths.

With this Experience we let you make your own design with a unique technique that originates from Senegal. Together with Daniel who has his roots in both Senegal and Cape Verde you make your own work of art from your garment or piece of fabric.
Daniel is a versatile artist who mainly works with natural materials such as calabash, coconut, sisal, leather and has learned his Batik technique in a traditional way in the well-known Casamance Region in Senegal.

The day before yesterday I was told that Spike had passed away.
When I returned to Praia in December I could no longer care for him. It all became too much for me at that moment and I didn’t think it was fair how he had spent the last few days. I eventually found a special place for Spike 🫶 in the interior with a good friend.

This dog was a friend to many, to all who stayed with us in our B&B in Lenfer and to ourselves of course.
Rest in peace dear Spike, we will never forget our moments. You are in our hearts 💛

Today I celebrate my entrepreneurship.
Five years ago I started my company in the Netherlands JUJU PRODUCTIONS and Terra Terra Tours was also started from there.
I’ve been through a lot in those years! And I made so many mistakes and learned a lot ☺️
In addition to my work in the Netherlands as a stylist, production management, photography, I gave Cabo Culture and Language lessons, organized Vintage Sales and I also set up my company in another country (Cape Verde). There was a pandemic in between, which I got through. I have always persevered and always believed that all the seeds planted in these special years will bear fruit 🌱

Today I celebrate this victory and want to give you a gift 💚

I started working on my first cookbook during the pandemic.
Jair and I got to know each other better during this period and taught each other what we knew and bundled it together in our first cookbook. And I’m going to launch it this month🎉
It will be for sale (online) and there is a waiting list for those who want it printed.
I haven’t found the right place to print it yet...
Hence the waiting list ☺️

Today is my dad’s birthday 🥳
A few weeks ago he visited this beautiful work of art by Kitsune Jolene with my mom...
I felt honored that they traveled there together to see this mural.
Thank you Mom and Dad for supporting me and yet seeing me follow my heart every time.

The sign with description states the following; Getting to know and appreciate each other and each other’s culture better: the only remedy against racism.

Judith, the woman portrayed who lives and works in Cabo Verde, connects people through and thanks to an authentic mix of hospitality, openness and friendliness (morabeza) of the Cape Verdeans.

In her own way, a changemaker, a world improver, a bridge builder, who makes international solidarity concrete.

That’s something I know for sure after all these years! I think of all the special visitors and the special friendships that have arisen.

Every time you will have to make choices in your life that you are sometimes not sure about, but you still know that you are following your feelings...
So I’m back in Cabo!
Yes really! I don’t quite believe it myself... Are you still following us 😅The past few weeks in the Netherlands have been so hard for me🥹

Full of courage and confidence, I flew back to the Netherlands just before Christmas, because I didn’t want to be in Cabo without Jair. I felt that I couldn’t let him go yet and that Hara missed him too much (and so did I).
But once back in the Netherlands, I still didn’t have our own place for us, so I first stayed with a friend who has 5 kids with Hara and Jair. But that didn’t work for me… I got tired.
I decided to go to my parents to recover for a while and then I will probably find a house soon! I really had a lot of good faith in it ✨ But I couldn’t keep it up there either, and neither could they with us. We have too different lifestyles and Gouda, the town where my parents lived, did not give me what I need now.

Full of new plans and approaches and oh yes, “I feel like I’m really alive again!”
