Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, traveling across the U.S. required mindful planning for many. First published in 1936, The Green Book was an essential guide for Black travelers, helping them find welcoming hotels, restaurants and service stations across the US, Canada and Bermuda.

Created by Victor Hugo Green, it expanded from a local resource to a nationwide guide, ensuring safer and smoother road trips for decades before its final publication in 1967.

The road looks different now. Wider, more open. As we drive forward, let’s remember the paths those travelers carved and the stories that shaped the journey.
