day and night crappie trips available. we'll never sell you a crappie trip and go catfishing! My name is Bill “Ho**er” Harwell, a lifelong fisherman on many venues, I have embraced two irrefutable facts. The best time to go fishing is when you can, and safety always comes first. I have been fishing Lake Conroe since 1995, professionally since 2009. It’s a great lake with many excellent angling op

portunities for a variety of species. Crappie are always at the top of my list. I am deeply dedicated to my pursuit of them and have put forth countless efforts in the context of brush piles, spawning structures, timing, also including attracting techniques and bait catching and other tricks. I am the only guide I know of who fishes at night predominantly and I do so often in my pursuit of Crappie. Turn key full service trips . I supply everything and clean the fish. Solid equipment , custom built boats, organized and professional. I offer a variety of trips and services from serious fishing to parties and picnics. Discounts for public service and birthdays.

I still have one spot available for Sunday mornings open boat. 6:30 am, stowe away marina . 130 per person 30 dollar deposit to reserve the spot . It's around 5 hrs on the water , I supply everything and clean the fish. The catch is separated so you can keep the fish you catch. We're targeting crappie with live minnows and a mixed bag is likely . The pics are from our last few recent trips. Ya won't find a better deal anywhere to fish with a long time reputable crappie guide that wont just go catfishing . Future open boat trips are announced on this FB page and private charters can be booked on the website hookerharwell.net for anyone interested. I hope this post finds you well and in good spirits. Thanks again for staying tuned! Have a great day 😀

What a morning , good grief. Finally figured out what was going on with the dang motor. There was a leak in an obscure place in one of the high pressure air lines . It wasn't obvious at all , in fact the symptoms the thing was exhibiting led us to believe it was other issues. It even had Ken scratching his head from the diagnostic numbers he was getting . After going through the entire VST this morning and trying to get it fired up I noticed the hose leaking while looking at something else and immediately knew that wasn't right and investigated further . I guess the leak finally got bad enough to notice having started out small and it was never obvious before today . To top that off it's a special hose with crimped fittings and special 90° ends on it . Ken says he's never seen one go like that after telling him about it . Oh guess what , all the parts catalogs say it's unavailable! As it turns out though you can cut the crimps off carefully re-use the ends and replace the hose which we did and Eureka it's running like it should now . My trip for tonight is being rescheduled due to weather. High winds and chances of severe storms and we're not going to risk it . I hope this post finds you well and in good spirits. Thanks again for staying tuned.

Got some of my parts in today still waiting on one . Still chasing my this idle issue. There's only 300 hrs on the powerhead but there's over 700 on the fuel system. I've found many little things that were worn or not quite right so far and replaced several parts but it still hasn't remedied the problem. Haven't found one big thing to explain it yet . It's not holding the correct fuel or air pressure at the fuel rail will just the key on or at 1500 rpm so tomorrow morning I'm going through the entire VST . It's already had an entire tune up , new low pressure pump, tracker valve and one of the air regulators. I'll get it figured out . Hell there's only a couple parts left to replace and the whole fuel system is new except for the rails themselves lol. I'm going to replace the high pressure pump even though it's working fine because I'll have it all apart anyway. Just a little update . BTW I did finally get some some sleep lol. Sometimes it's hard to get any rest with so many known unknowns. Have a great day everyone.

I'm pretty tough . Between trips , mechanical issues , house chores, and life in general I've had around 5 hrs sleep in the last 4 days , I'll fight a bear with a buggy whip because I dont scare easy, I'm quite content to get a nap whenever possible, grind the fishing without giving up and the guarantee I give ya on the phone , I'll live up to in person . Find one person who's ever fished me under the table and I'll give you the boat . My chit is paid for in that respect and can do so . Still , I've never seen, found , or witnessed a tougher person than the beautiful creature in this picture. Every year I reflect on just how the resiliency the human spirit should be in awe , the fact that a person can go through so much and not be bitter but to be one that if one thinks just for one second and realizes what real "tough " is they might find some inspiration. Today is her birthday. . At 30 she was head on by a " drunk driver" . 32 broken bones, 2 punctured lungs , Lifeflighted DOA , a brain injury, a coma for at least a couple weeks.....for crying out loud they had to reattach her left leg . The gal in that selfie gave me new perspective on life , a new respect for it in general , the Buzzard and almost 22 years of love , respect, marriage, support and great times. Hell , when I met her she was in college getting her MBA ! Yeah, I'm pretty tough but I'm a joke in comparison considering just how good of a mother , lover , wife, and companion she's been over the years . She's forever upbeat, to know her is to love her . I don't even know anyone who doesn't love her ! Hell , half the folks who were born in Conroe in the last 19 yrs it seems have a baby blanket custom crothched by her ! Lmao 🤣. She gives so freely expecting nothing in return , she's always honest in her intentions, she loves from the bottom of her heart and I wonder every day what I ever did to deserve such beauty in my life . In fact my goals in life over the years have changed to being more like her than anything else because I love who she is so very much. Happy birthday beautiful . You're the most wonderful thing that's ever happened to me . I'm so lucky . Let me tell ya something I've learned first hand folks . There's people in life that's worth following because because they are the people they say they are and there's some who don't have to say anything you follow anyway because of the feeling you get when you're with them . It'll just feel right .

Ive already contacted the individual customers and we'll be postponing tomorrow's open boat. I'm still having issues with the idle on the motor on the SLABILLAC. I've been with mechanic , ordered parts and will give further updates . As always thanks for staying tuned.

What a great trip with some fantastic people and action! Jeff and Amy are repeat customers several times over now and they're just a blast to hang with! They love to cut up, talk smack and just plain have a great time. Today they brought Amy's parents , Leroy and Rhonda along . Super duper nice folks. Full trip, 630a - 1230 p . 2 lbs down in crappie town in that short time ! 🤣. It's always great to go through 2 lbs of bait ! Once again, if ya really know what you're doing the crappie they aren't all that hard to figure out this time of year. Ya just don't give up ! Even if they're acting a little tricky! I'll never stop drilling that point home . They have their moods and ya gotta know how to change with them , match their aggression level and exercise some truthfully basic fishing skills , not to put too fine a point on the subject. Boxed 33 crappie today along with a mixed bag . If it fries dies with these guys . Tuna. Whites , big gills, snotty's , yeller fellers.......Ole Leroy wanted the goo too . My side still hurts from hanging with these guys 😆. Sure , it did start out a little slow on the bite but if you're " in the know " and know what to do about it , willing to see it through ........ one can be quite successful . These guys did great! Of course there's a learning curve every day because of the crappie's tendencies to be moody so quite a few were missed / lost . I often talk about such things and well, the proof is always in the pics at the end of the day now isn't it? It was a bit windy today . A couple spots we fished were rougher than a cats tounge and that didn't hurt the bite today, although at times it's not the ideal situation nor can ya even get away with it . A crappie guide worth his salt will often know when to even give such things a second look and how to exploit that situation , how to evaluate, calculate and execute such activities. I just happen to have put the work in on the front end. Setting more brush / structure than even the " officials " over the years . I didn't waste our time today knowing where we'd find only smaller fish and we didn't have any throwback crappie today . Just gooduns. As always we appreciate folks who trust us and our actual guarantee because we don't make stupid ones like " don't catch don't pay" . If you're getting bit we're doing our job . Crappie ain't always so easy . If they were there wouldn't be a need for any livescope......... thanks again for yet another great time guys! Ya'll are easy keepers and we always look forward to seeing you!

Conrad brought his son Chance out this morning for some crappie. These guys are a lot of fun to hang with , really nice guys . Full trip , 6a-1230p . Fished clean through their 2 lbs of bait . They boxed 27 crappie along with a mixed bag . Lots of throwbacks. Short crappie, baby sharks, yeller fellers, gherkins, and goo . I mean wow , what a morning lol. Lost quite a few to the learning curve. Some were aggressive and some were really timid so at times they'd throw ya for a loop lol. When they're all over the map like that there's no real "ah ha " moment so ya gotta take it one fish at a time and that can be tough to pattern " in the moment " especially when one is new to all of it . That's why we work with folks and demonstrate the nuances to help folks be more consistent in their crappie fishing . Thanks again for a great time guys ! We really enjoyed having ya'll aboard and look forward to next time!

It just didn't feel the same seeing Lorolie and not seeing John. Yesterday evening Lorolie and John's son Ted came out on a 4hr as kind of a sentimental tribute to him. Ted had intended to come down and visit earlier this year to fish with his dad but unfortunately time is the one currency we spend without ever really knowing the balance. It was bumpy out on the lake with all the wind and boat traffic. It was pretty busy out there . Evidently there was a crappie tournament yesterday as well. We hit places loaded with fish that were just plain spooky and stubborn. We did have to kinda hide from the wind too . It never really laid down like forecast until we were just about done . We had some conversation about John and a bit of getting to know Ted a bit better but truthfully yesterday evening's trip was a bit quieter and more somber than the usual. We managed enough for them to have a nice supper, threw one back lost a few . Otherwise it was pretty tough fishing . Most likely being sat , a tournament, a really busy lake and those fish had probably been hammered all day before we ever got to em . Great seeing ya'll. I'm so very sorry for your loss and I can tell you that ole " captain squid " will be sorely missed aboard the SLABILLAC. I always enjoyed fishing with him and always looked forward to seeing him . RIP old friend.
