The common name, leopard, is a combination of the Greek words leōn (lion) and pardos (panther), which reflects the ancient belief that the leopard was a hybrid between a lion and a panther. The genus name, Panthera, and the species epithet, pardus, are, respectively, from the Latin and Greek for panther.

The R60 will be closed for traffic in Ashton
(specifically between Barry Street and Loop Street)
for the launch of the Ashton Arch Bridge
from 05:00 on Saturday, 14 August 2021*
up to 05:00 on Monday, 16 August 2021*.

The detour via Bonnievale is 43km

How about a road trip to De Rust!

It’s not a long drive from Oudtshoorn but as the kilometers ticked off a gentle sense of simplicity settled over us, like we had been waiting to exhale. I like to think that this is a town where your soul can re-charge, I am not sure that it boasts the fastest internet speed but isn’t that what we need from time to time. Easter is a symbol of hope, renewal and new life...

Last year, our Easter was one of uncertainty and fear. Our essential staff were the only people on site and they lovingly cared for our animal family despite working in a desolate facility which is normally a buzz over Easter.

This year, we are making up for it! Not only are we thrilled to be open this Easter but we are excited to host families from near and far.
If you are planning on visiting, you will be able to enjoy all that we have on offer… as well as an exciting EASTER EGG HUNT!

66 eggs will be hidden across the Ranch during Easter Weekend (2-5 April)
Each colour egg represents a prize of up to R 550 in value!

Terms & Conditions:
- Only one type of egg per category may be used per family/group per day
- Prizes are not exchangeable for cash or any other item
- Each egg will only be valid for that day
- To keep our free-roaming animals from joining the hunt, painted rocks represent the hidden Easter eggs
- Easter egg rocks must be handed in at the relevant station to redeem the prize. Info posters all over the Ranch will tell you where to go with the specific coloured egg
- No eggs will be hidden inside animal enclosures or where visitors are not permitted to go
- Only one discount prize may be used on a single item
- Only selected items in curio discount will apply
- Only one restaurant prize will be valid per family/group
- Child encounter prizes must still be accompanied by a paying encounter guardian

The Cango Wildlife Ranch has come a very long way since the years of just being the "Crocodile Farm" and although we now house over 90 species of different animals and make a significant difference in the fight against the extinction of various endangered animals, our amazing crocodiles still form a big part of our facility.
