⚠UPDATE: 24 June 2025 - Qatar Airways has confirmed the re-opening of airspace in the State of Qatar. The situation remains fluid, with airspace restrictions subject to rapid change as the situation evolves. Travellers and operators are advised to monitor official government and airline updates for the latest information
SATSA wishes to advise members that, as of 23 June 2025, the following countries have temporarily closed their airspace in response to regional developments: Qatar, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Jordan, Iran, Iraq, Syria and Israel (sources: Reuters / official government statements).
Implications for Southern African Travel Trade:
• International flights between Southern Africa and affected regions may experience delays or rerouting
• Travellers connecting through Middle Eastern hubs should be advised to check flight status regularly
• Tour operators with clients travelling to or from affected airports should work closely with airlines on contingency planning
• Encourage travellers to confirm departure times before heading to airports
SATSA recommends all members to closely monitor airline communications for real-time information and to update their clients as and when information becomes available. These airspace closures are temporary; authorities will issue reopening details as they become available.
We will continue to provide further updates as more information emerges.
