The road from Aus to Sesriem is never an easy one, especially for the classic cars.

An endless stretch of gravel roads, notorious corrugations, rattling dashboards, and enough dust to test both machine and driver alike. But this is exactly what the Trans-Africa Rally is all about!

And despite the tough conditions, the desert delivered in spectacular fashion.

Sightings along the way included brown hyena, bat-eared foxes, jackal, rhino, eland, oryx, and more.

Of course, after enough days in the desert, strange things begin to happen. Apparently the ladies were spelling something out in the sand, although I'm yet to work it out.

Nothing like a magical desert sunset to settle down the dust of the day and take stock.

Because rally life isn’t always smooth sailing, one of the cars may now be out of action for the remainder of the journey, and contingency plans are already in motion.

But that’s overlanding. Adapt, regroup, keep moving forward.

The road continues tomorrow.

The gravel roads continue...

Before sunrise, the day began with a hike to the top of the nearest koppie. A chance to stretch the legs, reset the mind, and soak in the silence before the engines roared back to life. Out here, looking after the body is just as important as looking after the cars.

As dawn broke over the endless Namibian landscapes, the rally rolled onward toward Aus, a small desert town famed for its wild horses and its gateway position to Kolmanskop and Lüderitz.

And as tradition now dictates, no route through this part of the world is complete without stopping in to visit Meisie for her legendary apple strudel and biltong. The kind of roadside ritual that becomes part of the story.

Dusty roads, long days, and another successful rally stage completed just in time to crack open an ice-cold Hansa, while watching the sun sink below the horizon.

One more day deeper into the adventure.

The road to Namibia.

An early morning departure saw the rally winding its way over the spectacular Bainskloof Pass, with dramatic skies, hail storms, and the rugged beauty of Namaqualand setting the tone for another unforgettable day on the road. A traditional spit braai and warming sherry in Springbok offered the perfect welcome after a long day behind the wheel.

Then onward we pushed, crossing the Orange River and entering the vast open spaces of Namibia, before finally reaching Fish River for the evening.

And naturally, no true overlanding journey would be complete without a stop at one of the best biltong shops along the way.

It’s rally time!

Set against the timeless elegance of the Mount Nelson Hotel, the Trans-Africa Rally 2026 officially came to life with a gala evening that set the tone for what lies ahead.

Classic machines. Like-minded adventurers. Stories waiting to be written.

And then, Day 1.

A rain-soaked departure out of Cape Town. The kind of weather that reminds you this isn’t a polished tour, this is Africa, raw and real.

From the dramatic coastline of Cape Point, to the winding beauty of Franschhoek Pass, the rally found its rhythm early. Wet roads, misty mountain passes, and that unmistakable feeling...we’re on our way.

Over the next month, this journey will span 7 countries, cover nearly 8,000 km, and weave through some of Africa’s most iconic landscape. From deserts and wildlife-rich plains to legendary landmarks like Victoria Falls.

This is not just a rally.
It’s a return to the essence of exploration.

Welcome to Satori House, Kruger

Some moments feel bigger than words, this is one of them.

Welcoming my folks to the completed Satori House in the Kruger was something I had been looking forward to since the handover of the keys. To finally share this space, a place that means so much to us all, made it all the more special.

From putting my Dad to work tidying up around the boma, to exploring on e-bikes, soaking up incredible game viewing, and ending the day with dinner under a sky full of stars. It was everything I had hoped for, and more.

And just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, a little bush baby stopped by to say hello.

These are the moments that stay with you.
