🐍🥃 Drinking snake shots in Taipei’s infamous Snake Alley! 🇹🇼

Huaxi Street Night Market (better known as Snake Alley) has a long history of snake-related food, drink and traditional remedies. 🏮🐍

So naturally, I had to try one of its most infamous offerings: snake shots! 😳🥃

These aren't simply alcohol infused with snake. The shots are traditionally prepared using snake blood and snake venom among other thing, mixed into alcohol before being served. 🐍🩸☠️🥃

Snake blood has historically been consumed as a supposed tonic, while snake venom has featured in traditional remedies. However, many of the claimed health benefits associated with consuming snake products aren't supported by modern scientific evidence.

The whole experience is a pretty wild insight into the history of Snake Alley and the more unusual side of Taiwanese food culture. 🇹🇼😂

🌍 From AFRICA to EUROPE by boat 🇲🇦⛴️🇪🇸

One of those journeys that feels far more significant than simply getting from A to B.

I boarded the ferry in Tangier, Morocco, with Africa behind me, and crossed the Strait of Gibraltar towards Tarifa, Spain, arriving in Europe less than two hours later.

There’s something pretty surreal about standing on a ship and watching an entire continent disappear behind you.

🏚 WHAT AN UGLY HOUSE 😳

Hidden in the woodland on the road towards Betws-y-Coed, you’ll find Ty Hyll or the “Ugly House” 🏡🌲

But its unusual name comes with an even more unusual legend. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

According to local folklore, the cottage was built by two outlaws who were hiding from the authorities. The story says they took advantage of an old 24-hour rule, under which someone could supposedly claim a piece of land if they managed to build a house on it (complete with a roof and chimney) within a single day.

Whether the story is true is another matter. The origins of Ty Hyll aren't fully known, and the 24-hour building rule is generally regarded as folklore rather than established Welsh law.

Sometimes the strangest-looking places have the best stories.
