As a traveller with a deep love for the environment; on my award-winning blog The Incidental Tourist, as well as in numerous print and online publications – I share stories and photographs, accommodation reviews and discoveries from my international and local travels, as well as details of conservation campaigns that I support. From gorilla trekking in Uganda, tree planting in Zambia, turtle rescu

e in Kenya, crampon hiking in Patagonia and setting up a temporary home in Lisbon, my focus remains on sustainable and ethical tourism while highlighting ways that we can enjoy the privilege of travel without detriment. Beyond this, my writing covers various topics from reporting live on the Cape2Rio yacht race, to lifestyle trend predictions and consulting on best sustainable travel practices. When not travelling or writing about travel, you'll find me working on marketing strategies, staring at the moon, doing yoga, or walking my beloved dogs - ideally on a beach.

A drive around the island leaves St Helena seeming much larger than it is, likely owing to its dramatic and diverse landscapes. With eight districts; namely Alarm Forest, Blue Hill, Half Tree Hollow, Jamestown, Levelwood, Longwood, Sandy Bay, and St. Paul’s.

You’ll find volcanic soil-covered mountains and barren outcrops, with green landscapes and lush forests just a short drive away. I’m amazed by the ferns, bougainvillea, New Zealand h**p, mature trees and fluffy cows. Tropical and verdant valleys sit alongside homes perched on tall peaks. I’d be hard pressed to find a favourite.

This is a destination for an adventurer as much as for a historian. The 21 Post Box Walks beckon exploration, while mountain biking and e-biking await. Yet whatever your preference, there’s nothing like an experienced guide to bring it all to life. We were lucky enough to have Aaron on our day out and about.

St Helena in the South Atlantic Ocean is one of the most remote islands in the world, reached by weekly flights with Airlink - which is how I arrived here yesterday to fulfill a long-standing desire to see, feel and breathe in all that this unique volcanic subtropical island has to offer.

Measuring about 122 square km in size and renowned for its diverse terrain and microclimates, we passed through blackened volcanic landscapes, lush forests, rural communities, and historic sites on the drive from the airport to Jamestown, the capital, tucked between impressive mountain outcrops.

Checked into Mantis St Helena. Our orientation was a walking tour hosted by St Helena Tourism that brought Jamestown to life, with its Georgian architecture, faded pastels, once-fortified oceanfront, and welcoming residents going about their Saturday business.

Fishing boats bobbed on a quiet ocean, delicious aromas wafted from food trucks and friends gathered for song and conversation at local pubs.

It’s a privilege to be here, a long-standing dream of mine realised, and I can’t wait to discover more of the history, marine, mountain and culture of this remarkable island.

Unveiling the Future of South Africa’s Oldest Wine Farm:
Groot Constantia’s New Winemaker Daniel Keulder.

An absolute privilege to have met Daniel and be allowed to tell his story in YourLuxury Africa. Don't forget to get to Groot Constantia as soon as you can to try some of his wines.

Raised in the Swartland, just an hour or so from Cape Town, Daniel developed an early interest in wine after being introduced to Bukettraube’s delicate muscat flavours while a boy. As the rare cult…
