Cape Hike and Climb

Cape Hike and Climb Guided hikes on Table Mountain, the Cape Peninsula, and surrounds and the Cederberg. Guided sport single pitch rock climbing on the Cape Peninsula.

I am a qualified Mountain, Climbing and Cultural Guide based in Cape Town, South Africa. If you are looking for adventure or a more personal, active approach to the sights of the city, send me a message or drop me a line! I do half and full day hikes all over Table Mountain and the Peninsula, as well as half or full day Sport climbs on the Peninsula. There is also an opportunity to do some Traditi

onal climbing on iconic Table Mountain! If mountains aren't your thing, then let's take a walk through historic Cape Town and experience her sights, sounds, smells and flavours. City tours are a half day, leaving the afternoon free for down time at one of our beautiful beaches, or for some gift shopping at the Waterfront.

ANNOUNCEMENT:
In February 2026, I will be undertaking a personal challenge to raise funds for 4 animal welfare charities in South Africa. It's a triathlon of sorts:

🏊🏻 Robben Island swim 7.4km
🚴🏻‍♀️ Cape Town Cycle Tour 109km
⛰️ 13 Peaks 100km, 6000m gain (in four consecutive days).

The goal is to complete all 3 events within 30 days of the first one, the swim. The swim is scheduled for sometime in February (when conditions allow). The Cycle is on 8 March. I'll fit the 4 days of hiking in the time frame.

All proceeds will be shared among 4 charities:

Please follow my page for updates and the link to donate!

The first donation is already in - thanks to the super talented and kind for designing this logo for free!! Check out her work if you need a graphic designer/artist!

Happy International Mountain Day!
The theme for 2025 is "Glaciers and how they matter for water, food, and livelihoods in mountains and beyond." 70% of the world's fresh water is stored in glaciers and ice sheets. 2 billion people rely on water from glacial melt daily.

In 2014, I visited my first glacier. Fox Glacier in New Zealand is one of the few glaciers in the world to end in a rainforest. Apparently, in the '60's there was a plane crash. The glacier moved so quickly that parts of the wreckage were starting to appear at the bottom only 50 years later!
In 2015, I went to Alaska and saw more glaciers. The first I hiked to, called Exit glacier. There were markers showing the retreating glacier from 2005 and 2010. I shudder to think what it looks like now...
I also went on a cruise from Seward Harbour and viewed, among other things, more glaciers. I remember my camera wouldn't record video, so all I could get were photos of the calving.
And also of some seals relaxing on the ice floes. 😁🦭

Post fire blooms in Silvermine
Geophytes (bulbs and corms) are an indicator species of the fynbos biome, and they LOVE fire! The slopes of the Silvermine Reserve are covered in pink from the Watsonias at the moment, but in-between are other iris species (the large yellow rush iris and lesser reed pipe; the blue sceptres), orchids (Disa bivavalta and racemosa), pelargoniums, sundews (carnivorous plants) and the lesser spotted .puppy 😁

Fire in fynbos = rejuvenation.

Spring has definitely sprung here in the Western Cape! While most will be focusing on the wild flowers carpeting the West Coast in their millions, the fynbos species are also getting in on the action.
Most people will experience the fynbos of the Cape Floral Kingdom on Table Mountain, but it extends all the way to the Eastern and Northern Capes. However, the heart of the kingdom is definitely in Kogelberg nature reserve, just 1.5 hours outside Cape Town. Being isolated by mountains on 3 sides and the coast on the 4th, it has 1800 species of plant in 30km squared. This gives it the highest species to area ratio in the world!
