SANParks - Table Mountain National Park thanks for the one day warning for the guiding community...
Please, do not attempt India Venster on your own if you do not know the way, or if you do not have a head for heights. It is not a straightforward route.
We're grateful Platties is finally getting much needed repairs, but more warning is absolutely essential!

🚧 Platteklip Gorge Trail Maintenance Notice 🚧

Please note that SANParks will be conducting maintenance on the Platteklip Gorge Hiking Trail from 17 to 21 August 2026.

The affected section is between the Contour Path and the summit of Table Mountain (see attached map highlighted in red).

The trail will be closed on Monday, 17 August 2026.

Alternative access to the summit from the front face:
✅ Table Mountain Aerial Cableway.

Step into a magical forest on Table Mountain

Orange Kloof is unlike any other part of Table Mountain. Pristine, wild afromontane forest with tea coloured rivers and waterfalls, it makes you feel like you're in another world.
To keep this feeling, this is a restricted area of the mountain, access allowed only with a permit and a qualified Mountain Walking Guide.

Last week, thanks to donations through My Tri for Tails , I was able to donate R10500 each to 4 animal welfare organisations in South Africa. One of them was Pit Pals South Africa and I visited them this week. I got to meet all 60+ doggos there, including some adorable puppies! The money donated will go towards covering monthly expenses, wages and vet bills.

One of the things that struck me about these dogs was how friendly every single one of them was. Every dog wanted loves and attention. They were so happy to see people. Some of the dogs have been there since puppy hood, like gorgeous Enzo, the last of his litter. Still waiting 3 years later.
And Armando, found abandoned, who clearly had belonged to someone.
And Rex, who only arrived two weeks ago, skinny, and who is unsure in this new place and whines for people to comfort him.
And poor Winona, who spent 2 years there, finally adopted. And experienced a real home for 2 months before her human was kicked out of his living space and had nowhere to go himself. So he returned Winona to the only safe space he knew for her.
And the puppies, there from only days old, now months later still there (and so is mom).
And the other gentle, sweet souls who have been there 5-6 years, some longer.
What Robyn and her crew of 7 gents do every day is miraculous, with their incredible capacity for love and compassion. And they rely exclusively on donations to do this. Every day.

The mountain is overflowing with water, and it's glorious!
Remember to be extra careful in the wet weather - slippery rocks, rocks that have come loose, and never underestimate the power of water.

DID YOU KNOW?
Despite how it looks, the waboom/wagontree protea, Protea nitida, is, in fact, a sugarbush protea. Locally known as suikerbossies, these proteas come out in force in autumn and winter. Pincushion proteas, on the other hand, bloom spring through summer. So don't let the waboom protea fool you. By blooming in different seasons, these plants don't compete for resources, including their top pollinators - the Cape sugarbird and the orange-breasted sunbird (both fynbos endemics).
Sugarbush proteas are in the genus Protea, including our national flower, the King protea (Protea cynaroides).
The name sugarbush comes from a time before sugar. The San and Khoi who lived off this land would collect the sweet, liquid nectar from the flowers and use it as a sweetener in their foods.

PSA: LION'S HEAD CLOSURE
The jeep track portion of the Lion's Head circular trail will be closed from 20 April - 20 June 2026. This is so SANParks can carry out repairs and maintenance to the trail. The summit can still be reached by starting at the Kramat and taking the trail on the north side up. You can also still park at the main LH parking and take the path parallel to the road to the kramat before turning up.
Please note, this is a longer route and will add at least 30mins to your hike time (starting at the Kramat, more if you start at the LH parking). This is particularly important to remember for sunset hikes.
