“Fishing led to cooking, camping led to cooking, surfing led to cooking, and quality family time was always spent in the kitchen. I associate food with connection, and with creativity. The older I get, the more I find it necessary to have a creative outlet. With my stick-figure drawing skills not really cutting it (or impressing anyone), cooking and sharing my love for it, has become my expression”

“Yandi and her team have established numerous community gardens throughout Masiphumelele, including their newest garden at the local high school. These gardens play a vital role in teaching the youth and the broader community how to grow their own fruit and vegetables, providing much needed nutrients and improving overall food security in the area”

It’s pup season on Dyer Island and thousands of newborn Cape Fur Seals now call this home!

This was one of many beautiful sightings during a day out in Gaansbaai.

Sightings included: Humpback Whales, Heaviside Dolphins, Bronze Whaler Sharks, African Penguins and even two massive Short-tail Stingrays. A true ocean safari!

“One of the best ways to learn about the food, and its History is through people like Fayruza, a Malay woman who opens her home to our guests. Stepping into her kitchen in the Bo-Kaap feels like stepping into the heart of that history. Her warm smile on entrance tells you long before she’s cooked for you, that the food is going to be delicious”

Guide Spotlight:

For those who haven’t already, meet Shanti. Shanti is a born and bred Capetonian who makes the most of the beautiful city we call home.

If not hosting our guests you’ll find him running the Cape’s mountain trails, kayaking around the city or reading about politics, philosophy and economics.

Fun fact: Shantj actually writes economic analysis for a think tank on alternative economic models. Guests wanting to delve into the socio-economic situation within Africa are in great hands!

Not just a pretty face ay!
