Hop onto a small plane and head west towards Zambia’s Angolan border. And just when you think you can’t go any further, go a little more. ✈️

As remote as it is luxurious, King Lewanika mixes traditional décor, hand-woven linens, quirky modern finishes, floodplain views and oh, just Africa's second-largest wildebeest migration. 👀 47,000 wildebeest and not another soul around to see it!

The Congo, or as it's affectionately known, the green heart of Africa, is an emerald paradise for primates, and primate lovers like us. 🐒🌴

It is also, without much argument, the best place on Earth to see a western lowland gorilla. This alone should be reason enough to get you on a plane. But our distant cousins are only the beginning of the long list of wild and wonderful creatures that call the Congo home. 🦍

Wander into the Congo Basin, and you get the feeling that just about anything might materialise from the green. African grey parrots, otherworldly insects, forest elephants, or if luck is in your favour, a bongo antelope, are all on the cards. From the forest floor to the canopy, it is packed to the brim with everything except the familiar.

Antarctica – the most remote place on Earth, and our downstairs neighbour! An enormous continent wrapped around the southernmost part of the planet, this vast, icy white expanse of wind-whipped mountains and deep, blue crevasses is the world’s largest desert.❄️

The original Antarctic base camp, Whichaway Camp, is on a rare ice-free patch of earth, surrounded by peppermint-blue cliffs and overlooking an ancient frozen lake. Six lunar-like heated pods make for the perfect snug retreats after exploring one of the world’s last wildernesses, be that by ice climbing, abseiling, glacier hiking, zip-lining, or hanging out with emperor penguins! 🐧

A small, unassuming peninsula curling out from Madagascar’s north-east coast holds one of the island’s most valuable natural treasures. Masoala National Park. 🌊

As Madagascar’s largest remaining stretch of lowland rainforest, it's not easy to reach (which we love). Arrive at Masoala Forest Lodge via a 3-day jungle trek for those who prefer things hard-earned, or (don’t worry) by boat, across Antongil Bay– for the time-poor and sensible. Talk about the road less travelled, and boy, is it worth the mission.🌴

Ten species of lemur call this place home. The red ruffed lemur has very wisely made it his only sanctuary on earth. A moonlit walk might reveal the highly endangered aye-aye, or the park’s dizzying cast of chameleons, frogs, tenrecs, and chirping jewel-toned birds. 🦜

And just when you think you've seen it all, Masoala keeps going — straight into the Indian Ocean, where three marine reserves protect reef-fringed bays made for snorkelling, whales and dugongs.

It’s a strange thing, feeling jealous of a lemur. And yet here we are. 👀

On either side of the Zambezi, an age-old debate rages: which of its banks is better? But when you’re staring out at the river from one of only six intimate suites at the tail end of the Great African Rift Valley, you probably won’t even remember your name, let alone what side you’re on. 🐘

Raggle-taggle thatching and knobbly mahogany walkways frame the outward appearance of Nyamatusi Camp. But don’t be fooled. Tucked away behind these purposefully rustic design choices lies a sanctuary of plush feather beds, private plunge pools, open-air showers and perfectly placed lanterns so idyllic we’ve forgotten to mention the abundant wildlife. Above the wonderfully wiggly Boteti River lies Meno A Kwena. It's a tented camp of simple, authentic charm and one of our favourite spots for a good old armchair safari. 🪑Sitting on the very edge of a clifftop, it looks straight down onto the river below. And in the dry season, that river just happens to be a hub for one of Africa's most underrated spectacles: the annual zebra migration. 🦓

But Meno a Kwena isn't just a grandstand seat. Between game drives, walk with the San Bushmen, whose extraordinary connection to this landscape offers a completely different way of experiencing the wild. To top it all off, swap your tent for the sleep-out of all sleep-outs 👀💫
