Winter is prime safari season: dry conditions = better wildlife spotting as animals gather at waterholes.

4. Get a Local SIM Card. Easy to buy at the airport or convenience stores (Vodacom, MTN, Telkom).

5. Taste the Local Flavours. Don’t miss Biltong (air-dried meat snack), Bunny Chow (curry in a bread loaf – Durban specialty), Cape Malay curries, boerewors, and of course, a good braai (SA barbecue).
