She’s bold, she’s bubbly and wildly talented - Meet Laura!✨
💫 Most people know you as a make-up artist represented Nixon Make-up, what don’t they know:
“I've been doing this job for the past 14 years. The person I was when I started is very different to the person I am now. I used to be a loud, very social, nonstop, busy person but after a very bad case of adrenal fatigue, I now use my work as my social time (which I love), the rest of the time I like to be calm and quiet, seeing only my very close friends. I have found a beautiful balance between my work and social life. All my friends, excluding one, I have met through this industry. I’m very grateful for the amazing friends that I have.”
💫 What moments in your work make you feel the most honoured?
“I really feel honoured to get a bride ready for her wedding day. It’s one of the most important days of her life and I get to be there with her. I get to support her, and help keep her present and calm. I find that very special.”
💫 Tell us about your family and how they have shaped you?
“My dad paid for me to study events.
My mom paid for me to study hairdressing.
I paid for myself to study makeup.
This was all between living in London and working different jobs. Not once did either of them make me feel bad for changing my career paths. They both always wanted me to be happy and supported me in the choices I made. It brings tears to my eyes to think how proud they are (my dad has passed but I know he’s still so proud) seeing my work on TV, online or in shop windows.”
💫 What nourishes your soul outside of make-up?
“My Faith is what nourishes and feeds my soul. It’s by God’s grace that I have been given this talent and job, I am so grateful to him for that. I am also really grateful for the likeminded shoot friends, clients and bridal parties.”
💫 What’s your beauty philosophy?
“Real beauty comes from your heart and you can see it all over someone’s face whether they have a good, kind heart or an ugly heart and mean spirit.”
💫 What drives your passion?
“I get great pleasure making people feel pretty. I see personalities change and I can see confidence increase when someone looks and feels good. The makeup gets washed off but you still have that feeling of how you felt. I just love seeing people’s profile pictures change to the day I did their makeup because they obviously felt good that day and I was a part of that.”
💫 What are you most proud of?
“My special girl Ruby Dahling.
Ruby has lived with Type 1 Diabetes since she was 3 years old, so for the past 4 years. Her resilience and acceptance and the way she deals with this disease makes it so much easier on me. I have taken her on a few shoots, to clients and to a few brides, I get messages after from people telling me what an incredible girl she is and that she is welcome anytime. This makes me incredibly proud and grateful to be her mom. I’m also really grateful that I have flexibility with my job, and an understanding agent, that I am able to be there for her whenever she needs me. It also makes me proud to hear she wants to own her own Hair Salon one day.”
