WHAT EXACTLY IS A MIWA MOTOR MECH SHOW? | You’ve seen the excitement. You’ve heard the buzz. But what is a MIWA Motor Mech Show — and why does it matter?
In Youth Month 2025, there’s no better time to explore how this inspiring initiative is helping shape South Africa’s next generation of artisans.
MIWA’s Motor Mech Show is the flagship youth development initiative of the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA), a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation - RMI. What began as a single school-based event in Gqeberha in 2019 has grown into a vibrant series of shows at technical high schools across the country — each one connecting learners with real-world opportunities in South Africa’s dynamic automotive aftermarket.
“MIWA’s Motor Mech Show has always been about showcasing the opportunities the automotive aftermarket holds for young South Africans. MIWA remains committed to creating platforms that encourage young talent to explore careers in our industry. With the unemployment crisis facing our youth, events like MIWA’s Motor Mech Shows highlight the many rewarding career paths available in the automotive aftermarket – an industry that remains vibrant, evolving, and essential to the economy.” – Pieter Niemand, MIWA National Director.
Each of MIWA’s Motor Mech Shows has its own flavour — but the purpose remains the same: to help learners discover their strengths, explore their options, and take meaningful steps toward a career in a sector that urgently needs their skills.

“June is Youth Month – a time to reflect on the incredible potential of South Africa’s young people and to recommit to shaping a future that offers them hope, skills, and meaningful career pathways. At the RMI, we believe that the sustainability and transformation of our sector hinges on the investments we make today in our youth. MIWA’s Motor Mech Show is one of the most effective ways we’re doing this. This year’s event is not only a showcase of young technical talent and innovation — it’s a full celebration of community, industry, and opportunity.” – Ipeleng Mabusela, RMI CEO Strategy and Corporate Support.
Whether you’re a learner, a parent, an employer, or an educator, MIWA’s Motor Mech Show is a chance to connect with the future of South African industry — and play a role in shaping it.
