Day 1: 14-17 km

Park your car safely at the underground Day visitors parking at the Wild Coast Sun (R20.00 for 3 days). Meet your guide at 09:30 am, and start hiking at 10:00 am. Cross the Mzamba Bridge, a 153-meter suspension bridge, and walk towards the coastline. Cross the Mpahlane River on the beach, and continue to the halfway stop at Homestead for tea, freshly baked Mpondo Bread, and dinner.

Day 2: 10-12 km

After breakfast, leave with your guide from the homestead, crossing the Mnyameni River. Track through the smallest red desert in the world (4 km) and return to the beach, crossing the Sikombe River. Arrive at the Hiking Shack Dormitory, featuring a flushing toilet, gas-operated shower, and bathroom basin.

Day 3: 12-16 km

After breakfast, make your way down to the Mtentu River and cross the Mtentu Estuary by ferry. Hike 4 km in the Mkambati Nature Reserve, viewing the Weolmi shipwreck. Reach the Mkambati & Strandloper waterfalls, where you can swim, explore, and enjoy your packed lunch.

Day 4: Return to Wild Coast Sun

After a leisurely morning, transfer back to the Wild Coast Sun.

The Wild Coast is also called Pondoland, and the culture and traditions of the Pondo people form part of the village home-stay style hikes that are on offer.

While hiking the Wild Coast, Zama our Guide points out:

the natural beauty of the region,
shipwrecks along the beaches,
mystical caves,
stunning rock formations,
waterfalls,
rare medicinal plants
an array of bird species
pods of dolphins out at sea and
possibly even a glimpse of Springbok, Eland, Wildebeest, and Kudu whilst hiking through the Mkambati Nature Reserve!
There are many opportunities for swimming in fresh water pools and in the sea.
