All the recommended contractors have a minimum of ten years experience in the retaining wall field. CRS can also offer the services of advising the client the best preliminary / cost effective wall design at no cost. Once the most effective design is obtained CRS would recommend an approved engineer to carry out the design of retaining wall on your site for submission to local Municipality, the cost of this work could be for the client. Successful slope rehabilitation at Suikerbossie Nek using Terrafix® 150 blocks by Terraforce®!

The City of Cape Town addressed a dangerous cut slope failure along Victoria Road between Camps Bay and Hout Bay, Cape Town, South Africa, with an innovative engineering solution. After thorough geotechnical investigation, engineers implemented a combination of:

• Gabion toe wall (2.5m high) at the cut base
• Terrafix® 150 blocks installed at 35° angle above the gabion structure
• Maximum density laying pattern (10 blocks/m²) for optimal interlock
• Near-horizontal concrete infill walers at 5m intervals to manage uneven spaces
• Strategic anchor bars to prevent downward sliding forces

The Terrafix® blocks were specifically selected to trap maximum topsoil, prevent surface runoff erosion, and slow the weathering process. Indigenous water-wise vegetation was planted to enhance both stability and aesthetics.

The R3 million project created approximately 40,000 manhours of work for the local Imizamo Yethu community while addressing a critical safety concern. The solution avoided hard engineering approaches in this environmentally sensitive area adjacent to Cape Peninsula National Park.

Creating Space and Accessibility at Cariboo Autism Centre.

The transformation at the Cariboo Chilcotin Child Development Centre, British Columbia, Canada, is a perfect example of how Terraforce® retaining walls can make a real difference! When the Williams Lake facility needed expansion, Blocks R Us installed beautiful multi-coloured Terraforce® walls that maximized building space while creating wheelchair accessibility.

Massive Cut Slope Challenge Conquered with Terraforce®

A new lifestyle complex in Simons Town, South Africa, Harbour Bay Shopping Precinct, required stabilization of steep cut slopes. Terraforce recommended contractor, Dassenberg Retaining Systemsused the Terraforce Retaining Walls to create a stable, reinforced structure.

"The bottom 3rd of the structure was installed with a double skin of Terraforce L11 blocks, that were also filled with 25/19 Mpa concrete. Added reinforcement consists of Findrain 2m c/c, Rockgrid 200/200 as tiebacks and 3% sand/cement stabilized backfill. As a result, the Terraforce wall can carry a surcharge of 10kN/m², 1.5m away from the top, which comes in at 7.1 m above the parking area," says Georg Brand of Dassenberg Retaining Systems

Special challenges included managing a natural spring: "A soak away had to be designed by Fred Laker, ICOS Engineering and long-time Terraforce wall design specialist, to effectively redirect the excess water towards the subsurface drainage."

The completed wall features indigenous water-wise vegetation, with sourfigs trailing over the top and fynbos at the base.
