Just another magical night under the full moon with Wild Child Africa!
04 Feb 2026 night was a powerful reminder of why we do what we do. It began with a beachside dinner and a briefing, where we shared the story of turtle conservation in Southern Africa-the threats they face, the incredible success stories, and how former poachers have become the fiercest guardians of these ancient mariners.
Then the search began. We walked, hoping for a glimpse of the last nesting females or the first signs of new life. we were grateful to see a loggerhead female laying her eggs, thanks to the kindness of another group (Bhejane Nature Training) before moving on to find our own.
And then...it happened. Just as we were about to turn back, the sand erupted! an entire nest of loggerhead hatchlings scrambled for the sea right before our eyes. we held our breath, whispering cheers as the last brave little one caught the wave to safety.
But the ocean wasn't done gifting us miracles. on our walk back we found another batch of hatchlings, scattered like tiny diamonds on the beach. we became a protective circle, watching in awe as they found their way, one determined flipper at a time.
Two nests, countless new lives, and a heart full of hope. This is what conservation feels like. Every safe journey to the water is a victory.
A huge thank you to our passionate guests and to all the dedicated monitors and guardians who make these moments possible. The legacy lives on, one hatchling at a time.
