Day 3 in Kruger — another day, another story from the bush. 🌿🐘

Three days in the Kruger, and the wildlife keeps reminding us that no two days are ever the same.

Early mornings, quiet roads, animals gathering around water, movement in the grass, birds calling from the trees — and those unexpected encounters that make you stop, switch off the engine and simply watch.

You might spend twenty minutes watching an elephant herd, then suddenly find yourself following a hyena along the road. A little further on, giraffes appear between the trees, while somewhere in the distance a herd of zebra is moving across the open veld.

This is what a real day in Kruger can look like.

Not a checklist.
Not a race.
Just time in the bush, seeing what Africa chooses to show you.

Day 2 in Kruger — and the bush keeps surprising us. 🐘🦒

Every day in Kruger is different. You may drive the same roads, but the wildlife never follows the same script.

Today brought another collection of those moments that make a safari special: animals at the water, movement in the grass, birds calling from the trees, tracks crossing the road, and those unexpected encounters that make you stop the vehicle and simply watch.

Maybe you find elephants at a waterhole. Maybe a hyena appears beside the road. Maybe giraffes are feeding quietly in the distance, or a herd of zebra suddenly crosses your path.

And sometimes, after hours of driving, it is something small that catches your eye.

That is Kruger. You don’t know what you’ll see — you just have to be there.

Watching elephants around water is always fascinating — drinking, splashing, playing and simply being elephants.

A day in Kruger National Park is never just about ticking animals off a list.

It’s about being out there from the first light of morning until the African bush starts to quieten down.

Along the way, you might come across elephants crossing the road, giraffes feeding among the trees, zebra and wildebeest moving through the grasslands, impalas keeping a nervous eye on their surroundings, hippos in the water, crocodiles lying motionless on the riverbank, or a family of warthogs disappearing into the bush.

And then there are the smaller moments: colourful birds, a mongoose crossing the road, a tortoise slowly making its way through the grass, tracks in the sand, fresh dung telling a story, or a sudden alarm call that makes you stop and look.

You never really know what the next bend will bring.

That’s what makes a day in Kruger so special.

A day around Inhaca Island 🇲🇿

Inhaca is one of those places where there is always something happening beyond the obvious.

During our boat excursion, we explored the local town, wandered through the mangroves with their abundance of birdlife, and stopped along the quieter shores of Portuguese Island, where a lone fisherman was going about his day.

We also passed the island’s new pier and the old, rusty ferry that makes the daily journey between Maputo and Inhaca — a contrast that somehow fits perfectly into the character of the island.

From mangrove channels and birdlife to local life, fishing boats and the simple rhythm of island transport, these are the little moments that make travelling through Southern Africa so rewarding.

Not just seeing Africa — experiencing it.

🦀 Not all of Africa’s wildlife has four legs…

At low tide, the muddy shores of Mozambique come alive with hundreds of tiny fiddler crabs.

These little characters spend their time filtering food from the sediment, digging burrows and constantly keeping an eye on their surroundings. The males are particularly easy to recognise — one claw is enormously enlarged and is used for displaying to females and competing with other males.

And then there is the landscape they leave behind: thousands of tiny pellets of processed sand surrounding their burrows. What looks like a pile of little balls is actually evidence of an incredibly busy ecosystem beneath our feet.

Some of the fiddler crabs found around Mozambique belong to Austruca annulipes, a species well documented around Maputo Bay and Inhaca Island. They are remarkably small — but when the tide goes out, they can occur in astonishing numbers.

Sometimes you just have to slow down, look down… and discover another world. 🌍🦀
