🇳🇦 IT’S THE PEOPLE ALONG THE WAY! 🦁

During our recent trip through Etosha National Park, we came across a road construction crew hard at work on the new tar road.

Of course, I couldn’t just drive past! 😄 We stopped for a quick chat and I warned the guys that there were three big lions in the area. 🦁🦁🦁

What followed was some good banter, plenty of smiles and one of those spontaneous little moments that make travelling through Africa so special.

For me, a safari has never only been about the animals, the landscapes or the destination. It’s also about meeting people, sharing a laugh and connecting with complete strangers along the way.

Different backgrounds. Different languages. One good laugh — and suddenly we’re all friends. 🙌

These are the moments you don’t plan… but often the ones you remember most.

Namibia, you never disappoint! 🇳🇦

New Friendships on the Road

One of the best things about overlanding is the people you meet along the way.

While staying at Erongo Rocks in Namibia, we met this lovely couple from Switzerland. 🇨🇭 They were very curious about Maximus and asked me to show them around the Cruiser.

And guess which part caught their attention the most? The bar, of course! 😂🥃

We had a great chat and shared a few laughs. This is what makes travelling through Africa so special — it’s not only about the beautiful places and adventures, but also about new friendships, shared stories and the people you meet along the way. 🤝

That’s the magic of overlanding.

⛽ A GREAT INITIATIVE!

People, if you’re travelling through Gobabis in Namibia and filling up at the Shell Garage at Agra, here’s something worth knowing!

Fill up with 200 litres or more and you get R2 + per litre discount. 👏 That’s a saving of +- R400 on 200 litres — and for those of us travelling long distances through Southern Africa, every saving helps!

Well done to the team at Shell Garage at Agra in Gobabis for looking after their customers and travellers passing through. 🙌

Wouldn’t it be great to see more fuel stations following their example? ⛽

There’s just something special about being on safari, sitting around a campfire after a long day in the African bush, with a good bottle of red wine.

And people, this Saronsberg Shiraz 2019 is something special! 🍷 A proper braai, a crackling campfire and a glass of Shiraz — nothing quite beats that combination.

Who of you has tried the Saronsberg Shiraz 2019 before? And who else enjoys a good bottle of red around the campfire when you’re on safari?

Good wine. Good fire. Great memories. 🔥🍷🇳🇦

🇧🇮 TOYOTA COUNTRY! 🇳🇦

This past week I had the privilege of visiting Bujumbura, Burundi, as captain of the Namibian Davis Cup team. 🎾🇳🇦

One thing that really caught my attention while travelling around Burundi was the incredible number of Toyota vehicles on the roads! From older models that have clearly done their fair share of kilometres to newer Toyotas — they are everywhere.

I had the opportunity to chat with a few locals about it, and their answer was simple: Toyota is built for African conditions. 💪

Travelling around Africa, you quickly realise just how popular and trusted Toyota has become across the continent.

So, to all the overlanders and 4x4 enthusiasts out there:

If you had to choose ONE vehicle to overland Africa, what would it be? 🤔

A LITTLE TLC FOR MAXIMUS!

After every safari, there’s one thing I always make sure of — Maximus gets some proper TLC!

A thorough wash, engine clean, chassis wash… the works. I firmly believe that if you look after your vehicle, your vehicle will look after you. Especially when you depend on it to take you thousands of kilometres through some of Africa’s toughest and most remote places.

A huge thank you to the team Carty Carvenience in Moreleta Park. These guys take detailing to another level. Their attention to detail is incredible, and when I collect Maximus, he honestly looks brand new again! 👌

Adventure finished. Maximus cleaned, checked and ready for the next one.

Look after your vehicle today, so it can take you on tomorrow’s adventures.
