Africa has the minerals. But how do we make sure the opportunities stay and grow here too?

That means looking beyond extraction — to what happens next: adding value locally, building skills, creating jobs and using technologies like AI to open up new possibilities across the critical minerals value chain.

At the 4th African Critical Minerals Summit, UNDP’s Nokutula Mhene joined Leanne Manas for a conversation on beneficiation, AI and what it will take to ensure Africa’s mineral wealth creates opportunities that reach its people.

Because the real value of Africa’s critical minerals should also be measured by the opportunities they create for Africans.

What happens when biodiversity and business come together?

Traditional leaders, women-led enterprises, agricultural stakeholders and government representatives came together at the Implementation of Agriculture Hub to explore how nature-positive approaches can support sustainable enterprise development.

Through UNDP ’s Nature Intelligence for Business Challenge, Green Tree Market Agents and Mcebo Unlimited are examining how their businesses depend on and impact nature while identifying nature-related risks and opportunities.

The engagement also created space to share biodiversity finance resources and strengthen dialogue on the role of women-led enterprises and local communities in building a nature-positive economy.

Because protecting nature and strengthening local economies can go hand in hand.

What does inclusive growth mean in practice?

It means creating more opportunities for more people to participate in South Africa’s economy.

Over the next five years, we are working to help SMEs, township and rural businesses grow, while connecting young people and women to the skills, jobs and markets they need to move forward.

It also means expanding digital access and supporting public services and institutions that are accountable and work for people.

Because growth matters most when more people can benefit from it.

Healthy land supports more than nature. It supports people, livelihoods and opportunity.

Across South Africa, UNDP is working with communities to restore ecosystems while creating opportunities from the natural resources they live alongside and depend on.

From restoring indigenous medicinal plants in Limpopo to protecting the unique biodiversity of the Succulent Karoo in the Northern Cape, communities are at the heart of turning restoration into sustainable livelihoods.

As global conversations continue at , we’re putting land restoration into action here at home.
Because restoring land can also mean restoring opportunity. 💚
