SIRAI HOUSE

Set on a ridgeline in Kenya’s Laikipia region, the design of Sirai House responds directly to its elevated setting, with expansive views across the plains to Mount Kenya ⛰️

Local stone, timber, and hand-crafted details root the architecture in place, while a series of pavilions creates privacy and a sense of quiet retreat. Interior and exterior spaces flow together, shaped to frame the surrounding landscape and allow for seamless movement through the site.

Built entirely by local artisans, the house reflects a commitment to both craft and context.

MOMBO CAMP

Set within the floodplains of the Okavango Delta, this camp offers a quiet immersion in the landscape. Raised walkways and spacious tented suites are carefully placed to respond to the site, allowing guests to experience the Delta while leaving a light footprint 🌳

The architecture is shaped by the experience of place - open, grounded, and closely connected to its surroundings.

XARANNA OKAVANGO DELTA CAMP

Set deep within the wetlands of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The design follows the changing landscape, with tented suites connected by raised walkways that thread carefully across the floodplain.

Each suite was planned to offer a private connection to the delta, opening out to uninterrupted views of the waterways. A soft, natural palette was used throughout, allowing the camp to feel woven into its surroundings 🌾

CLOUDS ESTATE

The brief was to convert an existing meeting space into two new suites for the boutique hotel, along with a new pool and day room. The design needed to fit within a partially below-ground structure while aligning with the property's contemporary aesthetic.

The plan unfolds around a strong axis, layering spaces to draw in natural light and frame the views, creating a quiet extension of the existing architecture.

DWYKA TENTED LODGE

Set within a remote, weathered valley in Montagu. The design is shaped by the surrounding rock formations, with tented structures arranged to follow the natural lines of the landscape ⛰

Each suite is designed as a private retreat, with timber decks and canvas forms that open toward the wide valley views. Finishes were chosen to reflect the muted tones of the setting, allowing the lodge to feel connected to its environment.

BISATE LODGE

Located within the natural amphitheater of an eroded volcanic cone in Rwanda. The design responds directly to this context, using traditional Rwandan forms as a starting point, expressed through contemporary detailing and locally sourced materials.

The guest rooms are designed as sculptural, cocoon-like spaces, with curved walls and textured finishes creating a warm interior environment. Openings are carefully placed to frame views of the surrounding forest and mountains 🌳⛰

SITE VISIT 👷

Some exciting progress on site as Suyian Lodge slowly finds its place in the Kenyan wilderness.

Inspired by the ancient granite kopjes and resilient plant life, the design is sculptural yet grounded, built to feel at home in its surroundings.

Excited to be working with such a talented team and to be collaborating with Michaelis Boyd Associates on this special project.

Opening this July, watch this space.

MARATABA SAFARI LODGE

Tucked into the foothills of the Waterberg, the Marataba Safari Lodge tents are designed to disappear into the landscape.

Raised on timber decks, their canvas-and-steel structure opens wide to the wilderness, framing uninterrupted views of the bush.

Soft, earthy tones and natural textures blur the line between inside and out, creating a place that feels both sheltered and completely immersed in its surroundings.
