The Struisbaai harbour is a hub of activity that serves as the entry point for the many colourful fishing boats. Tourists are drawn to the activity at the harbour as there is a beach, a well-known restaurant and something the locals affectionately refer to as Parrie. Parrie is an unusual attraction as he is actually a resident stingray.
Initially lured to the Struisbaai harbour because of the morsels thrown over the boat by returning fisherman, the stingrays have been a regular at the sunny spot for several years now. They have grown so accustomed to the locals that they can now be approached by people and be fed! Although it is always good to keep an eye on the swaying tail, they are in fact very friendly creatures that has become both a tourist attraction and something of the town’s mascots.

Seahorses are VERY bad at swimming...🌊🐴👎

There's no denying it, they might be the poorest swimming fish in the ocean, and are definitely the slowest swimmers at the Two Oceans Aquarium - but why would a fish give up the ability to swim properly?

Seahorses feed on tiny crustaceans called copepods, tiny swimming scavengers that are incredibly fast, able to flee danger in just a few milliseconds. But, the cumbersome seahorse is actually much faster, able to strike in under a millisecond, no copepods can escape!

By sacrificing their traditional "fish abilities", seahorses can use their flexible necks to aim, and their prehensile tails to stabilise themselves. So, although they may be one of the slowest swimmers, they are actually one of the fastest striking predators on Earth!

💙The lesson? Never judge a fish by its swimming ability!
